Off Topic - Afghan - 4 Soldiers killed!!

Post by Spud »

Mods - any chance of keeping this up on the forum please!! :TU:

They say once a squaddie always a squaddie - so when I heard the news today that another 4 lads had lost their lives fighting in Afghan, I was genuinally gutted - not only for them but for the families they leave behind - I lost a good pal only last August (Dan Shirley) who was a massive boxing nutcase and did a lot on the Amateur scene.

RIP to each and everyone of you!!

Forum, there are lots of causes we all put money into - but the stuff boxing does for "Help The Heros" and other Service Charities is going to bloody good causes - please to those who support those charities keep it going - The Boxing Family does a lot for the services - the lads are so grateful - some of them do not have a pot to p*ss in and when they get injured and cant work things get even harder - those that lose their lives the families they leave behind have a bloody hard time too!!

I do not want to get into a political slanging match here - as some have strong views the lads shouldn't be there in the first place - but they are and they are there because they are ordered to be there.

Thank you Boxing for all what you do!!!

Again - RIP to those 4 lads who have lost their lives in the last 24 hours!!!

it's very sad, even sadder how they are treated once wounded & unable to continue.

i think it's a liberty that we haft to rely on a charity for our boy's welfare, yet we pay muslim clerics a fortune who are spreading hate in our home basically spitting on our soldiers graves.

but big respect to these boy's for believing in what they are doing R.I.P

now im not a racist, no way, and i dont mind any race colour or creed...but, the british army/forces...shut down all their military hospitals, and now put poor injured squaddies, on wards with old ladies stinking of piss, and even on wards with various religions, some of whom are very anti our troops being in the middle east. the whole defence medical services is a fekkin embarrassment.

A very sad situation, and for what?

They are doing a terrible job that almost all the country don`t care the slightest about. I mean no critism to the brave guys on the ground, but they should not be over there.

R.I.P to the four lads that have been killed

I always make a point of reading about each one that gets killed, it's the least i can do and it's my way of showing respect to the fallen. They are our armed forces and they get sent to where they are told to go, so whether they should be there or not is immaterial when a soldier gets killed. I for one think that Afganistan is an unwinable war and that troops are essentially out there serving no other purpose but to save the faces of the gutless politicians that sent them there. I have huge respect and admiration for our armed services and to give your life in service, is the ultimate sacrifice.

You pay "Muslim clerics"?

Spreading hate?

Two way road mate, nearly every side of the board is opposed to something else. Be it the BNP or whoever.

Fact is, i know a few guys involved in either the Afghan or Iraq war, they all say the same thing. It's a joke and waste of time.

In Afghanistan for one thing, the soldiers are not even supplied properly, and there was atleast a 3 year struggle to get Blair to do something. But as time progressed, the truth unravelled. The soldiers there are treated as nothing more than Pawns.

As for Iraq, i'm not even going to get started on that lol.

Fact is, all this could have possibly, POSSIBLY been more or less over. But over the years, incidents such as Guantanamo, Abu Ghuraib, Haditha, Illegal killings, Kidnappings, Rape cases etc. etc. With the perpetrators getting of the hook the majority of the time has done nothing but increased any Resistance in Iraq and Afghanistan. Had the perpetrators actually been dealt with accordingly, maybe Afghanistan and Iraq would be two different countries.

Obviously, however, that is far from the case.

I mean i just can't believe Guantanamo remained open for so long, and finally the US government got some sense and closed the damn place when Obama became President. But i'm pretty sure the Guantanamo chapters has left damage that is simply not reversible.

Sligo,

I never had any doubts you would be one of the people objecting to this thread - I have very strong views myself - however you are right this is a boxing forum :TU: - you are a good contributor to this place and I promise you this thread is not an attempt to make things "politicial" as I do understand people have views which are worlds apart!!

I am unashamedly using the horrible situation of these lads passing away - to most importantly pay my respects to them and their families who must be distraught right now - but also just as important I have used the thread to put a boxing theme on it - I want to thank those from the boxing world who contribute to "Help The Hero's" and other Forces charities!!

There are plenty - Frank Maloney for all the arguments or banter I have with him only recently held a much needed boxing promotion which Ross Burkinshaw headlined - all the money raised went to the Army Benevolent Fund - Frank has been a fantastic support to the forces which is why deep down he will always have my respect for the work he does for the lads !!

I will say again thank you "Boxing" and please carry on your support - the last 24 hours has proven every penny given from whatever walk of life is gratefully received!!

Sligo - lets not get into a slanging match on this - its not often I say this to you and others who disagree - PLEASE - leave it for another thread - the thread has a boxing slant on it and I will keep it that way if I can!!

Thank you

Finally - RIP to those lads!!!

Spud this is a boxing forum, none of these people were forced to sign up, there are far greater injustices in the world than 4 soldiers dieing fighting in a war

it is terrible sad news when anyone dies and respects and thoughts go to their friends and loved ones, at this very difficult time.

however lets put this into perspective tens of thousands of innocent Afghan civilians have been killed mainly by American bombing( for a breakdown type 'civilian casualties war in afghanistan 2001-present in Wikipedia)we are involved in a war that we cannot win, soldiers are not forced in our free society to either join the army or have to fight in a war that they disagree with, they can refuse to go.

Its an unwinnable war...the Russians found this out to their cost and so are we!!

God knows what we can do, we cant carpet bomb the whole region can we??? This is Osamas greatest victory, the fact he got us entrenched in Afghanistan and Iraq(also getting rid of Saddam who he hated as a secular leader more than the west)

We need to get out and start building bridges with the moderate Arabs, if not there will be more threads like this and more young lads not coming home.

My thoughts to their families

Guys,

I will repeat and repeat and repeat:

The Forces are genuinally grateful for all the fantastic help that boxing amongst many other organisations do for their cause.

The thread also has no reference to boxing at all - in that it was my full intention to pay respects to those brave lads who have lost their lives - there are a lot of people from the forces or ex forces who visit this place - we wish to take every opporunity to show our gratitude whether it relevant to the subject matter of the forum or not.

I completely understand there are many of you who have very strong political opinions and the merits of this, that and the other - you are entitled to your opinions.

All I can do is express mine - I honestly believe I am a boxing lunatic, I love the sport - I also have very strong connections with the forces - I do a lot of work for forces charities etc etc so when a lot of lads lose their lives whether the operation they are on is merited or not - it effects me BIG time - its on these occasions I come on here to express my sadness for the loss of lives but also to express my gratitude to the many boxing personalities who contribute to the forces charities who fund the families who have had loved ones seriously injured or who have to cope with the loss of a loved one.

The more life goes on the more sad I get at how "politcally correct gone mad" this world has become - I have very very strong views indeed on the things I believe in - but I honestly thought that most of you would show your maturity and intelligence to know where I was coming from on this thread - 2 intentions - to thank boxing personalities for their contributions wether it be money or memorabilia for auctions and to express sadness for the loss of life - that is all.

I genuinally do not want to stir things up - you have my promise on that - that is not what this thread is all about!!!

I will state yet again - RIP to those lads who have lost their lives in the last 24 hours - you are in a far better place now guys!!

R.I.P to the soliders and their families.

I've got pals out there currently whom are not exactly thrilled with fighting an enemy 'who has absolutely nothing to lose'.

Infact some of them were given medals yesterday at a ceremony down south.

They stormed an afghani district recently and two of the armed bearded guys they pulled up, had broad Bradford accents.

WTF is that all about !

But anyways.

Its a terrible shame all the way round, yes for the soldiers family at losing a loved one who has taken the choice of putting themselves in that position though that dosnt justify it, but lets not forget the innocent ones who are having their country invaded, living in fear. What about the scores of innocent people, women and children included not choosing to be in the situation being wounded or killed? What about a RIP for them thousands?

Just makes me hate our politicians more who sit smugly in luxury whilst young men die for their ill-formed policies especially that weasel Blair. RIP to the soldiers who at least signed up knowing what being a soldier involves, RIP to the thousands of civilians who have died never having signed up for it.

taxpayers money,i pay tax & that pays towards his 5 bedroom house in north london  & his benefits.
which is appalling.
i think you'll find afghanistan is like a columbia where they produce masses of drugs to sell to the western world & fund there activities with, iraq is the oil basically money, power,we want controll of.
most are against it but take away there cars holidays & give them a squat for a house there views wont be the same, war is ugly.
but people have lost there sense of reality thinking we live in a nice fluffy world where everyone is civilised
