Len Wickwar a lightwight from 1932-1946 is listed here at 6-7-2

I saw his name listed in a records book that lists him with the record for the most pro bouts ever at 466 pro bouts (not including exhibitions) between 1928-47. Now someone has their work cut out for thm updating his massive record

I've never saw a complete record for Wickwar. To date, I've only accumulated around thirty bouts for him.

I did a search on his name and found a little bit of info on a geneology site of the wickwar surname at http://www.wickware.com/newsletters/newsletter22.htm

It seems to confirm that he indeed did have over 400 bouts but the only match mentioned was "His final profesional boxing match was Feb. 6th 1947 when he was beaten by Donny Cunningham of Methill at St. James Hill, Newcastle-upon Tyme"

Intresting note that it also mentions his manager refers to him as "The greatest boxer who never won a major title"

Also found his name listed on another top 10 list placing him 10th for the most KO's with 93.

Maybe a bio note should be added to his record noting that he is refered to having the most pro boxing matches even though it is unlikly that his full record can ever be verified.

Most all-time record lists are very outdated and are just copied from older lists without additional research. "Torpedo" Billy Murphy for example: Fight Fax list his total knockouts as 63, but a thouroughly researched record for Murphy shows him to have 76 knockouts and I'm almost certain that Alabama Kid and Tiger Jack Fox had 100 career knockouts, now it's just tracking down the unrecorded fights. The last update that I saw for total bouts in a career was by Herb Goldman, in either Ring, or Boxing Illustrated (I forget what year that it was), but I recall that a fighter from the 20s & 30s named "Wildcat" Monte was researched by the late Tim Leone who found over 400 bouts for Monte.

Hi! Just found this and I believe that I might have an old record for Wickwar somewhere. I´ll start searching this weekend, but I dont remember how complete it is.
If my memory serves me right I recieved it from a friend some 35 years ago!

I found the record! It´s type written on 8 pages and starts in 1928 and his last fight according to this record is in february 1947.
Len Wickwar was inactive 1941 to 1945 during the war.
