JAMES DEGALE ON ITV'S BEAT THE STAR NOW
1 pro fight and already pursuing celebrity boxer status. Difficult to imagine Hagler doing this stuff.. Is James another Audley Harrison or what? What the frick is he doing on this shit??
already playing the celebrity boxer game.

Re: JAMES DEGALE ON ITV'S BEAT THE STAR NOW
Obviously helping to gain more exposure for himself. Hence more money because he becomes a bigger star.

But he's an Olympic gold medal winner. Are you so blinkered in your criticism you don't even remember that? So all the times you have seen Duncan Goodhew or Rebecca Adlington or Chris Hoy on TV, you have slagged them off too?
It's hardly like he has skipped training to do it, is it?
PS: I'm sure Marvin Hagler would have advertised any product or appeared on any TV show that would have paid him

I too sense a smidge of Audley in the lad but agree that exposure and recognition is the name of the game. Got to be well known to transcend the sport and that is where the big bucks are.

Tyson got the exposure by FIGHTING every month & demolishing guys...

Exactly. However I think there is a certain Audley within him ie more hype then substance. Winning an Olympic Gold is an amazing, truly amazing and proud achievement, it no longer is an indicator of the worth of a fighter in the professional boxing ring. I sense that Mr Degale will be more Audley than Sugar Ray as a professional
Re: JAMES DEGALE ON ITV'S BEAT THE STAR NOW
I think its good to get his name out there.
Khan done the same after me won his medal. I think he was one of the first contestants on this programme.

Quite true but he'd have made more money and got more exposure if he'd appeared on Letterman in 1985(did Letterman even exist back then? I was only 1 going on 2).overhand_right wrote:Tyson got the exposure by FIGHTING every month & demolishing guys...

They were asked some question about the biggest cities in the UK and when the most obvious ones had gone, DeGale said Cornwall. He did take the piss out of himself for it, though.

Re: JAMES DEGALE ON ITV'S BEAT THE STAR NOW
Leave the fookin kid alone idiots are quick to categorize him in the Fraudley & Khan mould besides him winning an Olympic medal the similarities end there.
Degale is obviously trying to acclimatise to a pro boxing career and the celebrity status an Olympic gold medal brings..........wouldn't you be buzzing like fook if you were him?
Saw him the other week at the NIA where idiots were booing him in his first pro fight, very approachable bloke, no hangers on ........he was chatting to people in the crowd AFTER his fight.
This kid has heart, anyone can see he oozes genuine desire to do well.

good luck to degale why shouldent he represent boxing as a star hes agold medallist for gods sake, because hes turned pro surely dosent mean hes to become a hermit till he wins a big title, if he does that and dosent succed as a pro hes missed the boat ,
Re: JAMES DEGALE ON ITV'S BEAT THE STAR NOW

Time will tell how far he will go. I sense that he has greater limitations on his career prospects than is generally believed and when it turns out to be the case I shall copy and paste this into a thread in ten years time.
Good luck to him though, wish him the very best in his career but I do not think he is the best of the olympic prospects as far as being a professional.

If he starts failing in ten years, he has probably done quite well
