Has To Be Done: Fitz vs Big Niko
In a tribute to Rocky/Tua and Dempsey/Ike threads, in this corner we have Ruby Robert Fitzsimmons of the Corbett challenge, his heavy title, age 33. Essentials are 6-0, 167lbs, 72" reach.
In the opposing corner, we have Big Niko Valuev, same age when he blasted out Monte Barrett in his 2nd title defense. Essentials are 7-0, 328lbs, 85" reach.
Ruby Robert IBRO 20th ranked heavy and also ranked in LH and middle rankings as well as P4P rankings, one of the elite ranked 4x by IBRO. Ruby Robert also a IBHOFer and the first ever fighter to win 3 full divisional titles, all "lineal." Surely there must be more accolades, perhaps the inventor of the solar plexis punch and the superb aging 40+ grizzled vet genre, and so on and so forth.
Niko with more heavy "title" defenses and a record setting sized heavy, the longest of long shots in getting into the IBHOF, but who knows if he beats Chagaev and keeps on keeping on for another 5 yrs. He's one win from matching Ruby Robert's career total and might possibly set a global PPV record if he defends his title against Giant Silva, ya never really know what's gonna strike the public fancy.
So, how's it gonna break down gents? I can see the goldie-oldies maintaining Fitz holds the giant at bay with jabs and then lowers the boom with a body shot in the 14th that leaves the giant flopping about on the canvas like a giant whale.
But what do YOU :geek2: say?

Re: Has To Be Done: Fitz vs Big Niko
Valuev wins by stoppage after a few rounds or so.
Fitzsimmons had great power for his era and his
weight.
I just dont see him having much effect against
a big man like Valuev.
His skills and talent were pioneering, but have
since been built on.
His solar plexus punch, celebrated and heralded
but nothing of exception today.
I see Valuev struggling to land clean power shots
on Fitzy early on, as he is able to stay under the
radar as such and dart about well. But Ruby Bob
is unable to land anything of substance and struggles
with the consistent jab of Niko.
Accumulation of shots catching Bob coming in and
trying to escape is what takes its toll. Game, brave
and ultimately beaten.
Valuevs rangey jab really troubles Bob.
Valuev KO 4.

And if he comes up with a solution for global warming he'll win the Nobel Prize too.BroughtonRulesRefuge wrote: Niko with more heavy "title" defenses and a record setting sized heavy, the longest of long shots in getting into the IBHOF, but who knows if he beats Chagaev and keeps on keeping on for another 5 yrs.
Re: Has To Be Done: Fitz vs Big Niko
I'd back Langford, Tunney and Greb to beat Valuev.
I was about to write that Fitzsimmons dimensions and style are aganist him but then I remembered how an out of shape Toney almost beat Peter.
Size is a huge advantage but Valuev isn't that good. He's not a cr@p fighter but he's at best mediocre.
If Fitz's skill and talent has been built on then how does this manifest in Valuev?

Anyone foolhardy enough to pick Valuev care to explain to me why a prime Bob Fitzsimmons isn't as capable as a 300-year-old, reflex-devoid Evander Holyfield, who recently beat Valuev? LOL.

We know who had the fairytale career between Fitzsimmons & Valuev, that's for sure.
You're a bore, BRR. Gran did it better, & he wasn't as smug with his delivery. You, we can hear orgasm as you write up the post.

This post got me wondering, and I can not believe that there is footage of Fitz koing Corbett on youtube!Robinson wrote:Can you gents point me in the direction to some footage of Fitzsimmons

Excuse me if this is nothing new to you, but to me this is absolutely fascinating.
The quality of the footage is really poor (big surprise), but hey, it's still worth watching (for me).

There's also footage of a re-enactment of Jefferies v Fitz, with Jefferies doing commentary!

In the meantime, I'll have to do endless crossword puzzles and make up trivia questions to assuage my wounded heart.
Who was the last sub 200 heavy to hold the title?

Geez, you can't even formulate a trivia question correctly.BroughtonRulesRefuge wrote: Who was the last sub 200 heavy to hold the title?
Pull up your panties and tell us which title?
Actually, the correct etiquette is when a trivia round is in progress you only get to post a question if you get the answer right.
Did you get any of the answers right yet, Numpty?

Re: Has To Be Done: Fitz vs Big Niko
So the consensus is that Fitz stops Valuev.
Can some one give me a description or play it
out how they envision it....
Thank You

- Bell rings and they advance with caution. Before the final distance closed, Fitz suddenly leaps head first into Big Niko's solar plexis, stunning him upright without any breath.Robinson wrote:So the consensus is that Fitz stops Valuev.

Upon the rebound Fitz resets in a brilliant nano second and digs a left hook from the pits of his smithy into the already bruised Giant gut which leaves the Big Giant flopping about on the canvas. The ring Lilliputians frantically rope him down secure and find a race horse oxygen mask to properly revive him.
All's well that ends well in faeryland.

Surely you could have spent more time describing the only thing that would have interested you in the bout, namely Fitz's shorts...

Eminem mentions it on his new LP
I can recommend it. The LP that it; not felching.

You dont strike me as a hip hop type of fan.
As for the felching...wouldn't know how it
goes in practice, but im sure some one on
this board would.
