KO1
What are the best ever 1st round wins in the history of the sport?
Here are a few
Liston - Paterson I
Liston - Paterson II
Tyson - Spinks
Smith - Witherspoon
Nunn - Kalambay
Nelson - Cowdell
Carter - Griffith
Dempsey - Fulton
I'd go for Carter's win. Griffith eventually proved hismelf the bettter man which in a way makes the first result more impressive. Griffith si also the greatest fighter to have been on the worng end of this result.
Other examples and opinions?

Al "Bummy" Davis belted out Bob Montgomery in just over a minute at The Garden.A big upset.
For awhile it was the fastest main event ko at that venue.
Lew Jenkins made his bones by knocking out Tippy Larkin in the first round , also at The Garden.

- Mike Spinks was undefeated and never been down in his life, also being rated slightly higher in Ibro's LH rankings than Griffith is in welt rankings as I recall.Ezzard wrote: I'd go for Carter's win. Personally, I put Tua's blast out of Ruiz and Moorer near top with most anyone's.
One could argue that Carter's feat was more impressive since Carter was a lesser fighter than Tyson, so then, enter Flynn KO 1 Dempsey to just get into legacy comparisons. Of course Jack wasn't yet Dempsey yet in reality, but lack of context doesn't seem to be a handicap on this forum, so, there it is........... 8)

Ken Norton was involved in an impressive trio of KO (or KO by) 1's with Bobick, Shavers, and Cooney. The last of those was the only one I saw coming. Bobick was undefeated and seemed to be pretty tough going in, while Shavers was considered finished after the first Holmes fight.
Gerrie Coetzee came out of nowhere to knock out Leon Spinks in round one. That was pretty impressive at the time.

max baer was semi-retired when pat comiskey was being being built up as a promising heavy...so they got maxie to lace them on again, hoping it would give comiskey a good win over a name who wasn't dangerous. maxie jumped out of his corner when the bell rang and flattened patrick in the first.
earnie shaver had that fat record of kayoes and jerry quarry was kind of a "get past him" gatekeeper of the heavyweight title contenders. saw that on on closed circuit tv. shavers rushed out and quarry met him mid ring and shavers got nailed and out. a replay did show that earnie got a good shot in but quarry didn't flinch.

Other than ones mentioned.
Marvis Frazier vs. Holmes/Tyson, Smith-Weaver
One that might not be mentioned Sugar Ray Leonard-Andy Price! At the time the undefeated Leonard met Price, Price was ranked and had wins over the two present world champions Palomino and Cuevas. After Leonard stopped him in the first he replied, I like it when opponents cooperate like this!
