I am highly disappointed by the media coverage of this event. No coverage by the associated press (AP), seemed like one paper covering the event, who was a novice writer and no television coverage (?).

I hope next year is better, if the timing is right, I might have to go to Indianapolis for the final two days.

Yeah, my "brother" was very proud of his grandson as was Jordan's other coach Randy Sutter. Randy and I have worked together for years with Jordan and I was so glad that he was able to fly out to SLC and be a part of the championship victory. BTW, you did tell me that Jordan would win clearly and 3 of the judges agreed with you, but two of them saw a completely different fight. The scores are below and Jordan was in the red corner
J1: 22-red to 13-blue
J2: 25-red to 15-blue
J3: 21-red to 12-blue
J4: 14-red to 14-blue circled blue for being the affective aggressor
J5: 26-red to 28-blue
Go figure those scores. How did judge 5 award blue basically double the points of all 4 of the other judges and how did judge 4 award Jordan so many less points than the other judges. 3 judges had Jordan winning clearly though.

I hope you don't go to Indianapolis next year since the 2010 NGG Tourney is in Little Rock, Arkansas! :DD

The media coverage issue is tough. You have to spend a lot of time developing the relationships with the media starting at leas a year prior to the tournament. That is what we did in Grand Rapids. I had a lot of meetings with media people during the year leading up to the tourney and I spent hours and hours on the phone with them too. I wasn't the only person either. Dave Packer had tons of meetings with the press, radio and TV too. Mike Gusweiler and his staff at the West MI Sports Commission, the guys at Lambert Edwards, Ed Kettle and many more also worked very hard on the media coverage. I'm glad that it worked out well and we set a high bar for future tournaments (I like hearing comments about how people got spoiled with the media coverage from the 2008 Grand Rapids tournament). If the people in Little Rock want the kind of coverage we had in GR, they need to start now. I hope the TV issue is worked out for next year as it has been 4 years now that the NGG tournament has not been shown on network TV. It is time to get it back on the air.

Someone asked about the Luis Arias-Naim bout. It was a tough bout and I saw some excellent exchanges. Luis is young and I'm sure he will be in the hunt in Denver as he came so close here. Besides Naim can't compete in Denver as he isn't a US Citizen so I think Luis "Cuba" Arias is the one to beat in Denver.

Somehow the ref leaned on the ropes and the ring collapsed. The didnt count the knockout, let them break for 20 minutes and finish the rounds out in another ring! They are protesting it now, but this is BS.

Somehow the ref leaned on the ropes and the ring collapsed? Maybe you should watch that video again. Lenroy was clearly winning the fight before it happened.

I think the ring collapsed as the two guys fell/slipped while moving. I have heard from most people that were there that Thompson DID NOT get knocked down from a punch and he was definitely not hurt from it. Heck, he wasn't even hurt from getting bounced out of the ring onto the table and then the floor after the ring collapsed. I saw him jump up with a big smile on his face and say that he was OK. Didn't look like a guy who had been KNOCKED OUT as claimed by some.

OK, I just watched the video. He didn't get KO'd. The other guy threw a punch, Cam blocked it and then threw a punch back as the ring was collapsing. I do wish they put the video up without editing it. They don't show the whole bout, so you can't say who was winning from it, but it is clear that there was no knockdown from a punch so the ref was absolutely correct in how he handled it.

Jumped up and smiled???????? He was laying on the ground for 20 seconds out cold than before he jumped up and smiled. It's funny how the video posted didnt show the part where Lenroy Thompson was laying outside of the ring for 20 seconds KO'ed. The video was edited to Lenroy's favor.

I might have to pass on going to Little Rock next year probably, flights probably too expensive, so Indy it is (lol). Little Rock, Arkansas did a pretty good host job as host in 2005

But all jokes aside, how is there not an AP reporter covering this event like in years past?

I hope that next year we will have the National Golden Gloves on TV and have better media coverage along the way.

Doubt it. Too much $$$, but they can at least post online. I'm starting to get video in and if anyone wants me to post NGG vids, just email me at [email protected] and I'll tell you how to get them to me.

The video clearly shows he wasn't knocked out by a punch. It doesn't matter how it was edited, it shows the part before and during the collapse, and Thompson was fine. He blocked a punch and was throwing one back as the ring gave out.

Like I said, The video was edited to his favor, if you were there , you would have saw thompson laying on the side of the ring, out cold for 20 seconds.

Chelsunya, I've thought about you alot today, and I cannot stop laughing out loud at how unintelligent you are. I've wanted to break down your looney comments and respond, but my guess is that you are either a kid, mentally challenged, never fought, a LIAR, or just plain backwoods dummy. You're funny, but duuuuuuumb!

He was no where near knocked out. I was standing above him as he was being helped up. The reason he was kept down was to be sure he wasn't trapped under any of the ring. His first words immediately was he wanted to get up so he wasn't disqualified for not getting back in the ring in time. I'm actually in the video, he was in no way knocked out. Take it from somebody that was standing ringside.
