I think -

Lamotta
Hagler
Not sure about the third......Chuvalo, McCall.....

But talking of Cobb, who did have an amazing chin I saw this on his record:

1985-05-20 230½ Eddie Gregg 216½ 21-1-1
Lawlor Events Center, Reno, Nevada, United States L UD 10 10
Cobb down in the 9th round
1985-10-29 230 Dee Collier 210 6-4-0
Country Club, Reseda, California, United States L KO 1

Anyone know about these fights and have more info?

(PS this one made me laugh the most:
1992-09-15 239 Sonny Barch 303¾ 19-3-0
War Memorial Auditorium, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States NC NC 1 10
~ time: 1:10 ~
Both fighters tested positive on cocaine. Originally a TKO win for Cobb. - they obviously partied together the n ight before, I think Barch said later the fight was fixed.)

anyone know if this is right?
They screened the fight on ITV and Hagler picked Cabrera to pieces.
Cabrera later fought Sibbo over here and put him down in the first round before losing on points.

Great call actually, I'd forgotten all about him. I'd also give Tex Cobb an honorable mention. Loved his quotes in and around the Holmes fight, where he took a sustained beating for 15 rounds. At the start of the 15th he allegedly just said: "Let's party!", and then afterwards, when asked about a possible rematch, said: "I don't think his hands could take the abuse!" Legend :TU:
Didn't he get dropped by Nardiello though?
yes, mate,he did.a flash knockdown from a backhander.he was on the slide by then though.a right hander benn hit with in the 8th would of felled a tree.also, most of these blokes have been dropped at one time or another(except mcall).even larry holmes against tyson, and 38 isnt that old for a heavyweight nowadays.all of the men mentioned by the knowledgeable lads on here had SUPERB chins

I think the consensus is that he used to be a hard puncher but became a slapper due to hand problems.

The hand problems definetly effected JC's power but his chin was good he went down a few times but never really that heavily the only time he looked hurt was against Mitchell he looked hurt when he went down but KO'd him the next round against B-Hop and RJJ he was off balanced or cought cold but he wasnt hurt at any point in them fights IMO

The Calzaghe is a "slapper" arguement was stated before his scheduled fight with Collins, which ended up being Eubank. Alot of people were saying then he is only KO'ing journeymen.

The Eubank punch was a peach, caught Eubank flush as Chris was going backwards... of course it wasn't a flash KD, but reminded me of the shot Kelley landed against Hamed. Joe didn't hurt Chris much after the fight.

Strong boy though was Joe.

Salvador Sanchez deserves a mention, beat some real killers in his time and never blinked.
Yeah, great call on Sanchez, who shrugged off the best shots of Azumah Nelson to win in the 15th round of a classic, went something like 26 rounds with Danny Lopez (now, "Little Red" could whack) before stopping him twice and detroyed the huge-punching Wilfredo "Bazooka" Gomez. Bennie Briscoe (whom Monzon ducked after a first meeting) and Howard Eastman deserve a mention, along with Santos Laciar.
Really, the best chins belong to the little guys, like Carlos Ortiz, Manuel Ortiz or Miguel Canto. Angel Robinson Garcia, who many say was robbed against a young Duran, is also worthy of a mention.

Old man Carlos Ortiz (my No. 1) soaks up a flush right-hander from a peak Ken Buchanan at Madison Square Garden in 1972. Their fight topped the bill, with someone called Muhammad Ali on the undercard (against Patterson II).
Ortiz never fought again.

Calzaghe used to be a harder puncher in his early days.

In the last part of his career, he took to slapping because his hands became so brittle.

Very true, Syntax.

Those brittle hands caused him to think abit more in fights and use his natural ability more. Though he was never a concusive power puncher he certainly had respectable power earlier on - it was clearly gone when he fought Mikkel Kessler - the hardest shots he landed in that fight were too the body.

Heh, you missed Jimmy Hill out if we're going down that path. 8)

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned Muhammad Ali, as he took some almighty shots / faced some really good punchers in his time as well.
Great call on Muhammad Ali (also Jimmy Hill :D )

The man was never Ko'd - I think we can all let him off for the stoppage loss to Holmes.

The man also faced many ferocious Heavyweight punchers. I think its a 'gimme' that he had a Great chin.

It was on the Larry Holmes-Carl Williams undercard in Reno in 1985. New Yorker Gregg, a good weight at 15st 61/2lbs, easily outscored Cobb over 10 rounds, picking him off with jabs and right-handers.
The gutsy but plodding Cobb (16st 61/2lbs) was dropped by a straight right for the first time in his career in the ninth round.

As for his shock loss to Collier in California in October 1985, local man Collier floored Cobb four times until the ref halted it at the 2-33 mark, with Cobb on the floor, trying desperately to beat the count.
It was a comeback fight for 30-year-old Cobb, who had had announced his retirement after the Gregg pasting five months earlier, but Collier, a 6ft 3ins 15-stoner, nailed him with a left hook after 30 seconds and Randall went down and never recovered. He was down six times in all but two were ruled slips.

The Barch affair in 1992 saw both men share cocaine before the fight (allegedly), during which Barch agreed to go into the can for Cobb (it was probably Cobb's cocaine). Barch later sold this story to Sports Illustrated but Cobb sued and initially won 10 million dollars, but the result was overturned on appeal. Cobb said at the time: "It’s one thing to call me white and slow, but to call me a fat, cowardly, cocaine-snorting, fight fixing cheat?
Who are they calling fat?"

True :D

But if you think of some of the guys that Foreman fought, he did'nt do so badly, did he ? However, it's strange how i managed to oversee one of the biggest knock outs in the history of boxing
