- Recall Robby getting rocked by a Fullmer right hayemaker in their final fight and knocked silly into the corner.

Robby grabbed the rop rope with his right and mugged Fullmer in as he gestured with his left. Gene needed no egging and quickly closed the gap unlike Shavers who froze against Ali so many years later. Lamarr Clark was on the undercard and fought Ali the next month, so doubtless the just turned 19 yr old Ali was greatly impressed with Robby's showmanship as he and his team must have been watching that fight.

Think Robby did a similar stunt against Lamotta in one of their fights and probably before that. I doubt Robby originated it as grabbing the top rope is a common tactic as is inviting a fighter in. It's just that hundreds of millions extra viewers saw Ali do his stuff. Modern peoples seldom bother with previous history which is how the same ol' wars, frauds, and so on get recycled forever.

Great vintage video as Pep got to assume the role of the stalking MonsterMan with telegraphed long looping punches and Ray gets to put on his act. We are greatly indebted to all these great folks putting together youtube classics for us.

Even though passed their best, Pep looked like an amateur against Robinson. Was this a work, or was this legit?
