Bernard Hopkins is a FAKE!!!

There is no denying that he is a good fighter but Bernard Hopkins IS NOT A MIDDLEWEIGHT, he started at lightheavy and that is where he belongs...

Now if he competed in that division would he still have 'boasting' rights(?).

And if thats not bad enough the 'assholes' that control the game allow these 'media' babies to go down in history, when UNSUNG greats from the past and yes and I'm sure even some modern greats who have been FUCKED up or forgotten are MORE DESERVING of such recognition!!!

And yes where is Greb and Cerdan and Holman Williams and Jock McAvoy and dozens more known and UNKNOWN.

Bernard Hopkins, my ARSE!!!

Wow. I take it you don't exactly care about Hopkins then.

I'd have also put Zale on that list as one of the options, but really there's no contest in my eyes. Monzon gets my vote as the best middleweight ever.

I think we have found some common ground in Harry Greb.
There are many many great stories about Greb.
On of the most unusual was that he was scared to sleep in the dark, this a man who wasn`t scared of any man, and he used to powder his nose(not druggy way)because he was so vain.
Ther was talk of another book coming out about him soon, still waiting to hear something on the release.

The Ring Magazine recently selected the best middleweights and Greb was Number 1.

??? a fake??? He was able to get at or below 160 for the weigh-in. That means he is a middleweight. Don't know what you are blabbering about.

I've read about his fear of the dark as well, the reason for it was his fear of being totally blind as he was already blind in one eye after having injured it in the fight against Kid Norfolk. Having imparied vision Greb probably could see nothing at all in the dark.
I've also read different stories concerning his death... in some he was having an operaion to save the sight in his 'good' eye... but in others he was having an operation to fix his nose now that he'd retired.
Tiger Flowers who beat Greb for the title died also after having an eye operation and was operated on by the same surgeon that had treated Greb so I've read!. Spooky!.

It's well-known that his then-promoter mismatched him vs. a much-larger opponent than intended in his pro debut - that was the *only* fight of his career that he weighed above 168. And ever since he entered the title-contender ranks in 1992, he's always come in at 160 or less - 22 of his last 23 fights have been for some kind of MW title, and in all he was at or below 160. If that doesn't make him a middleweight, then the moon is made of green cheese, my spiteful little friend.

Dumbass.

A: Hopkins is most definitely a real middleweight, as stated above.

B: I've gotta go with Greb based on what I've read; based on what I've seen Monzon was amazing--if only we had a decent film record of Greb's career to make a real comparison!

Greb

Post by klompton »

Greb is tops. The fact that he isnt even an option on this list is sad.

Im the one writing the book on Greb and it will be finished before too long. Hopefully it will add many more great stories to the Greb legacy and debunk some of the myths out there about him.

One of which is that the same surgeon was attending both Greb and Flowers when they died. Thats not true.

Greb died as a result of surgery intended to repair a damaged bone in his nose that was the result of a car accident he had been involved in.

Flowers

Post by klompton »

Flowers was the first black middleweight champion and the first black champion since Jack Johnson lost the title.

He was called the Georgia Deacon but he was actually just a steward, not a Deacon.

I believe there were a couple of black middleweight title claiments prior to Flowers but their claims were fairly dubious. George Gunther comes to mind.

Interesting tidbit

On Nov.5, 1923 Harry Greb and Soldier Jones fought to a ND. According to Lou Marsh, the respected Toronto sportswriter, "It is freely admitted by Pittsburg sporting writers that Jones had Greb down for 20 seconds and subsequent rounds were shortened to let Greb come back to earth." - excerpt from the Toronto Star.

O...K...

Post by klompton »

So we are now taking the word of a Canadian newspaperman in regards to a fight between Greb and a Canadian, that said newspaperman never saw?

Ill take direct quotes from the newspapermen who "freely admit" that rounds were shortened to help Greb, before I take the word of a biased writer quoting unnamed sources.

By the way, Marsh wrote that just prior to the match between Jones and Larry Gains in Toronto.

Keep us informed when its released and how to get a copy.
Incidently did you interview the Greb family? am I correct in saying his grandson helped with the book?
And to the nature of his death, I had read he was having his nose re-shaped to get into the up and coming Hollywood scene.
Can`t wait to read a little more on the great Greb :TU:

people talk about greb being no1 middle ever, but thats jus going on what theyve heard,i believe as far as p4p middles go,u cant get better than hagler and hopkins, not 2 mention roy jones who has more talent than any middle past or present, and if stayed around in that division long enough would in my opinion have been no.1.(jus cant get better).

Ive interviewed the Greb family. Some are more helpful than others. The grandson doesnt know very much about Greb at all because Greb died not only while he was so young but while his daughter and only child was so young as well. There is a great gap in the knowledge that the family now has of Greb.

He wasnt getting his nose reshaped, and certainly not for Hollywood. As I said earlier he was having splintered bone removed which had become displaced during a car accident and was causing breathing problems.
