What happened to Kevin Anderson?

I mean, in the sense of 'what went wrong?'

was he just a bit lucky to squeak the SD win of the Commnwealth belt in the first place?

was he asked to go through too rigorous a schedule, too early? (there was a point where it seemed he was fighting about every couple of months around the Magee/Franny Jones/Kev Mac time)

was he an 'early peaker' whose aggressive style meant he went downhill earlier than you'd expect?

was it that he never really developed his skills (seemed to me anyway), never rectified the mistakes that had been evident before the Okine fight?

i never thought he'd be a world-beater anyway but I expected him to be a decent welter in and around the domestic mix for a few years....

I think he was just a bit overated in the first place.

As you say, the Okine fight was very close and Okine wasn't particularly good - not sure what happend to Barnes the night he fought him.

Then his comeback from the brink win over Mutley, very exiting - but again Mutley is strictly domestic level - most people thought Jennings beat Mutley and again... has done little since - getting outclassed by Lynes in the process.

Then a quite close win against Magee, Magee who was shot to pieces, visibly limping due to the injury he sustained and lost practically every round to a faded Takaloo the fight previously.

Anderson's level is British class and thats it.

Kevin was a great little fighter, but i think he was in far to many war's, and fighting 12 rounders every 8-10 weeks is no good really, i hear he is making a comeback soon, i think he still has a good few fights in him.

Is Kevin still not only around the 25-26 year age group?
Maybe he was shot after the McIntyre fights and this break will have done him the world of good.
There's no doubting his ability but he needs to have his head straight.

He took some thunderous punches, but at what cost.

He should have moved on with ease after that fight with Mutley, but did not, and in m yopinion a lot of it is down to the big punches he sucked up in that fight with Mutey.

It's something froch fans need to consider too, because he is going to go the same route in my view.

I've got incredible resepct for a guy who can suck up as much punishment as Anderson took during that fight and still win.
That's what boxing is all about IMO.



Kevin appeared to lose a bit of his snap after that and seemed content to just do enough to get through fights.

Why that happened is anybody's guess.

There's more to life than just boxing and maybe Anderson is taking a break from it all. He's still young enough to come back and reclaim the British and maybe even move on to the European title.

He simply come up against someone who had his number, Kevin McIntyre. I didn't see the need for him to walk away, he was an excellent champion.

BUTCH- i have to say, between Brook/ JOD/ Watson i don't think Ando even at his best is a top 3 british welterweight nowadays... seems the division has moved on a bit now, know what i mean?

I'd give an 'in-form' Anderson a shout against all three of them. He can punch, is almost rock solid and has a tremendous will to win. Brook would be his best bet because he'd be more likely to stand and trade and that's when Anderson is very dangerous.

i know what you mean mate. but the Mcintyre fights really made me worry for Anderson, he didn;'t seem to be holding a shot as well as he was....

There were no points in either fight with McIntyre when I thought Anderson was ever in any serious trouble.
He just let himself get hit too often and had nothing in return.
His speed was awful as well.
