It's become a farce because in truth, they are now starting to contradict each other.
If Ray is correct - why no such comment from Lee Beard for example.
Not pulling out of course had nothing to do with his pay cheque - just for the fans - yeah right.
This could have all been avoided at the outset if Ricky had come out, given Manny the big licks, then sorted out the internal issues behind closed doors.
Instead, what did he do ?
Have a poolside party, and refuse to speak.
The whole camp's PR of late has been a disaster.
We have a saying, me and the mates, when we're away with the boxing.
What happens on the mile, stays on the mile - from the film, The Green Mile.
Even jobbing boxers adopt this, when it comes to what has happened in the gym, particularly sparring.
The whole set up and the individuals involved need to take a rain check.
Maybe, and sadly, the lot of them have got too big for their own boots.
This reminds me so much of the Naseem Hamed story, it's spooky.
Interesting you should say that mate, i was thinking the other day, I don't think even with Naz's camp i can remember so much hot air contradictions and he-said she-said bollocks, as with Team Hatton.

J,

There's lots of unanswered questions..... and not alot of facts. Things cannot be passed of as fact without being there.

Even Ray Hatton on Setanta said he was unaware of ALL of the problems in the Hatton camp for this fight. There might have been none, it might be all an excuse - but it shows that not even all closest too him knew everything.

Alot of speculation, yes the Hattons could have kept Beard working with Graham... could have, we don't know... did Beard and Graham see eye to eye - remember this "beard is not the assistant" - maybe Graham was unhappy with his involvement, maybe Beard said to them "you want me to work the pads you come to Floyd" (who Beard was working alongside before this temporary alligence with Graham).

I agree with large parts of what you are saying, but just not sure I understand the WHY Ricky left Graham, I cannot imagine it was an ego based decision - Ray had been working as Ricky's sole manager for nearly 3 years before Graham got ditched. The differences with Hamed was, everything happend at the same time...... Warren was ditched at the same time as Brendan. Didn't Ingle have more of an "manager's" role with Hamed than Graham has with Hatton. At least Ricky hasn't self promoted his fights - like Hamed tried to do. Even after Warren, he's had a US backer for US fights, and a UK backer for UK fights.

Its all a bit odd, and I agree very sad how the Billy Graham thing was planned out... I think though the reasons are purely speculative.

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but did you hear Mayweather say between rounds "you should have been listening to me from the start"? It was like he was trying to reassert his control IN the corner; or prove a point IN the corner.

Either way, there's more to this, and Beard's effort to imply there was a genuine partnership seem rather ridiculous.

I wonder if we're not being harsh on Floyd. I wonder if, rather than Beard being used BECAUSE Floyd was turning up late, Floyd was turning up late BECAUSE Beard was being used.

Either way, it makes the whole of the 24/7 series look like a big sham.

Good question.... questions, questions, questions - I just say untill we get the facts (which there is no chance getting) we shouldn't really lay blame with anyone.

Another question... was Lee Beard part of the Hatton/Graham split. I remember the Interview Terry cited in this (or another Hatton thread) in which Graham stressed Beard was not an assistant.... reading between the lines (which is what we are all doing) get the impression things were not rosey between Beard and Graham.

Counter,
I was unfortunate enough to witness some of the goings on when Naz decided family was best.
Believe me there was just as much hot air, but not blown in the direction leading to a full public exposure.
Ultimately and very sadly, the business and sporting decisions made by Messrs Hamed and Hatton do have a spooky resemblence - and an outcome the same.
Naz was always a great kid behind the hype.
I know the same applies to Ricky.
I just hope the so called friends around him aka "hangers on" are there after the career's over.
Naz is a lonely fella these days - despite the shed loads in the bank, and a property portfolio many only dream of.
I would drool watching Naz in the gym, he was awesome.
I often think of the lead up to the Robinson fight, and the fight itself, and I doubt I will witness anything as electric again.
I followed Ricky from the very early days and got a similar buzz but not as intensive.
I just wish the likes of his dad would just clam up - in the same way as I wished Riath would some years ago.

Hamed was great, cannot help feeling for Steve though - while Hamed was preparing like a champion, Steve was on his honeymoon.

Stu,
That fight was the first time that I was introduced to the marriage between boxing and psychology.
I never believed a fight could be won in the week leading up to a fight, including the weigh in, but Steve was beaten well before he got in the ring.

Oh don't get me wrong, Naz would have beaten prime Steve Robinson ten times out of ten... but Steve knew preparation wasn't correct - I definately don't think Steve would have been before the ring had his preparation gone smoothly. One of the first champions to make "excuses" before the actual first bell.

Said it before I honestly believe Ricky Hatton is taking undeserved sh*t here and in the media.

Team Hatton however in my opinion are bringing it on themselves - contradictions and waffle - when a little bit of humble pie would go a long way!!!

Please do not state the obvious to me - okay lets word it another way - I think blame should be laid at the door of other members of the Hatton Team not Ricky.

I know exactly where you're coming from Spuddy but you have to deal with facts.
Ricky is in total control of Team Hatton.
No decisions are made without his express authority.
As such, Ricky has to take some responsibility on his shoulders.
That said, Ricky does rely heavily on his team for advice from them on their area of "expertise".
Being totally brutal, that level of "expertise" in certain areas is well ........................... you know where I'm coming from Spuddy.
I've said it on numerous occasions - the comparisons between this PR fiasco etc to the Naz syndrome is uncanny.
Naz was culpible - so is Ricky.

That's silly. Ricky has no expertise in financial management, law, promotion, or public relations, and only expertise gained from experience in fitness and training -- which is limited.

That's why he hires these people.

So, if his bank manager or accountant embezzeled a whole crap load of his money, by your argument, it would be aaaaaallllllllll Ricky's fault.

But that's just wrong. He would have been let down by someone he trusted in an area he couldn't run himself for whatever reason.

They are there to provide advice and expertise on a variety of issues, and they've obviously let him down.

Your argument is rather like saying that a company let's itself down when it's lawyers or accountants mess up. Yes, they are ultimately responsible for everything, but there are areas where they have very little expertise and hire people to provide it and must just trust them. You know, there are areas where they can directly supervised, like with Ricky, he is responsible for his weigh gaining and training efforts, but there are some, like with the accountants and the lawyers where they just don't have the expertise. Ricky's like that in areas like promotion, running a camp, that kind of thing.

Q1. Who decided to sack Graham
Q2. Who decided to Hire FMsnr
Q3. Who hired Ray Hatton as chief PR & Whateva he does
Q4. Who hired Lee Beard

Spuds said we shouldnt blame Ricky but his team, but the 'errors' all came from Ricky

Personally i dont think anyone should be blamed, Hatton has had a mint career, earnt a fookin fortune, won many a title & exceeded my & more or less every boxing fans expectations

it wouldnt have mattered who he had in the corner he would have got whooped, Levels n Levels n that

FMsnr in my view was a USP to sell more tickets/PPV & it worked, great PR

Carbo,
With respect you've made some silly comments.
Accountability and responsibilty.
The man at the helm takes the can - in this case Ricky Hatton has to be cuplible.
You then say Ricky has no ability at Promoting.
Doesn't bode well for Hatton Promotions, does it ?
Who did the hiring and firing ?
Who pays the wages ?
Who takes the profits in successful times ?
Sorry mate but when the unsuccessful periods come along, you can't say "It's not my fault".

i also think that hatton has *some* responsibility for the pre-fight slagging of graham, post-fight excuse-making/slagging of FMsr, etc.

basically if hatton himself told all his team to keep schtum, you have to assume they would do so?

I can see where you are coming from gents!!! :TU:

However - having been amongst the camp for 3 fights - I was truly astounded people within the team would often feed off the slightest negative thing rather than be upbeat about things!!! :TU:

In addition I can promise you other than signing contracts etc etc - ricky does not get to hear a lot of what is going on - other than the "chosen few" who I feel fed him his information then he was kept out of things and as such its the certain members of team I am blaming!! - not Ricky Hatton - yeah okay if Ricky took a more hands on approach and f*cked off the negative sh*t things may have been a whole lot different.

I will state again though I see where a few of you are coming from - BTW its nice to have a decent debate for a change!! :TU:

You can all debate has much hasa you want the facts are , Ricky Hatton has had a fantastic carreer , made a shiy load more money than most others , and shown that when it come to the elite he was / is and always going to be , a poor second to the elite .

Who's to blame no one . by apportioning blame you are saying its not Rickys fault , someone else is too blame .

Well i've got news for you all Ricky is the one at fault , FOR EVERYTHING. H'e s at fault because he had a pesonality which enabled him to become the most poular British boxer in history and probably the wealthiest. He's also at fault because he just was'nt good enough on the night to beat the p4p fighter of his ers (TWICE)
