It actually looked like Rogan had a bit of a black eye going into the fight - was I just dreaming that?

He should give him a rematch it was a good fight i cant see Sexton getting past British level i think Rogan would KO him in a rematch as he definetly has the power to hurt him and Sexton will have to be made to have a rematch so he will be a bit scared IMO

I think it was hard to predict Sexton's Stamina and chin issues before this fight. He's only lost once, and that was to a bit of a prospect. He came through the prizefighter thing well.Coco wrote:
The next coming of Ali he may not be but Sexton is weak and it was a sensible easy first defense. Sexton clearly has stamina and chin problems and an early ending seemed enevitable, Sexton got lucky with the eye and even then he still should have lost but for some disgraceful refereeing.
On paper Sexton isn't a puncher, but he was hurting Rogan often. Rogan has shown he can be hurt before. People are forgetting that Sexton was a punch or so away himself in the 7th... and there would have been no complaints.

forced by who ?? the board? a boxrec poll lol?
I think the board will stand by their man. It would be a massive, and career ending show of no confidence in Parris if a rematch were ordered

Steve / Anyone, do you think that the heat of Breens gym helps rogans stamina ? Breens reasoning is the heat in the gym replicates the heat in the ring under the lights and allows the body to get used to the heat.steve689 wrote:Coco's right, Sexton has major stamina issues and was on the verge of being forcibly removed. He boxed well for ther first six rounds or so and even claimed later that he won every round and had comprehensively outboxed Rogan. This is of course bullshit, but around seven he imploded. His stamina is extremely questionable and the jury is still out on him although I noticed improvements in his all round boxing ability early in the contest and it is wrong to say he has not improved in that department.
I did notice that while Sexton carried out a short press training session in our gym on Tuesday, he did sweat alot and although the heaters were on, it still wouldnt be anywhere near as hot as Breens. They did ask for the heat to be turned off but we had a boxer that was training as well for the show and needed the heat on to kepp losing the same weight as every other training session.
Personally I think there should be a rematch, though I doubt Sexton will take it as he and his team will know they were very very lucky to get the win. Rogie was just too nice for his own good. I agree the Doctor had to make a call and made the right choice medically; Rogan could no longer see out of that eye. The point that Dave Paris decided to stop the fight to call the doctor was a bloody disaster.
Someone mentioned the DQ that Rogan was threatened with, I believe it was the 1st round when Paris told him "If you cut him I'll throw you out of here", this came after a little head boring by Rogan I think.
Magee wasn't happy (understatment), he was the only one I spoke too in the bar after the show. The others either went back to the hotel after the show or just went on home.
Another point about the night, it was no where nearly as loud as the Lindsey v Appleby bout. Though there were more people there although it is a much large venue with higher roof etc. It was good to see so many people in their seats for the undercard fights too, not even just the Olympians but even the wee 4 rounders that opened the show.

Nah, I noticed that too. You could see the yellow of the bruising when Sky showed the footage from the weigh-in on Thursday.sligobhoy67 wrote:It actually looked like Rogan had a bit of a black eye going into the fight - was I just dreaming that?
Here's a fact about bruising for you, whenever someone has yellow brusing, although you cannot tell when the injury was sustained you can be sure that it is at least 18 hours old.
Re: Should Sam Sexton be forced to give Rogie a rematch
Got to say that this is a rematch that really needs to be made. Without wishing to denigrate Sexton, who had done weel up to the seventh round, I think in most circumstances he would already have been stopped int he eighth when Rogan was pulled out - he was out on his feet against the ropes shipping a LOT of punishment and really pulled fast one hugging and spitting out the guard!Coco wrote:Of course he should, but whether he does or not is up to FW. I don't think FW will be interested in investing in Sexton, he was seen as an easy first defence for a man who can sell Belfast out. The Englishman is the luckiest man alive to be holding that belt, everyone knows that and I think FW will have little interest in him.
I expect FW will want to keep the Rogan ship sailing
Re: Should Sam Sexton be forced to give Rogie a rematch
The Commonwaelth council could mandate a rematch i think, but it all boils down to Warren.
Sexton will probably box whoever, if it's Rogan...so be it, if it's someone else...so be it.
Sexton did very well having never previosuly been beyond 7 rounds (i think), especially in a tough fight.
Both fighters had their moments and a rematch makes sense. This time Sexton should be the home fighter though.
