Showtime has decided to put on a show to compete with the long awaited return of Felix "Tito" Trinidad scheduled for October 2 on pay-per-view. Showtime will televise 3 fights the same night coming from the Mandalay Bay Casino in Vegas. In the main event, Wladimir Klitschko will get in with DaVarryl Williamson. A pair of the top 154 pounders in the world will vie for the IBF belt when Verno Phillips takes on Kassim Ouma. Also, supermiddleweight prospect Jeff Lacy will face his toughest opponent to date, Syd "The Jewel" Vanderpool.

Klitschko (42-3, 39KOs) is coming off a disastrous fight against Lamon Brewster. In April he was totally in control until he became exhausted. He was stopped in round 5. "Touch of Sleep" Williamson (20-2, 17KOs) also found disaster in his biggest fight when Joe Mesi stopped him in the first round nearly a year ago. Most recently Williamson took a majority decision over Eliecer Castillo.

The IBF light middleweight champ Verno Phillips (38-8-1, 20KOs) beat Shibata Flores, Bronco McKart, Michael Lerma and Julio García on his way to getting a title shot against Kassim Ouma (19-1-1, 13KOs). Phillips would have been going in as the underdog, but Ouma had to pull out with an injury. Carlos Bojórquez replaced him and Phillips took the belt. Now that Ouma is healed, he will get his chance at the title. The man with the never-ending stamina has been nearly perfect in his career. He also took a unanimous decision over Phillips 3 years ago.

Jeff Lacy (16-0, 13KOs) is known for blasting away opponents with his big left hook. Now that he is getting in with better fighters he sometimes finds trouble and has been taken the distance 3 times now. The supremely confident Syd Vanderpool (35-2, 23KOs) looks to give Lacy a real test. He has beaten Tito Mendoza and Glencoffe Johnson, plus has gone the distance with Bernard Hopkins.

This should be a very interesting card. Showtime will continue their plan of putting on a good show the first Saturday of every month. This time they will have high level competition though, as fans will have to choose between it and paying for Trinidad vs. Mayorga.

No David. I'm judging Williamson on the fact that he's an ageing cruiserweight with no chin. Vladimir is going to bash him around like a rag doll.

Oh and MASSIVE puncher? You need to look beyond the stats mate.

I think your being fooled by his nickname "Touch Of Sleep" David, it actually means he is likely to end up KO'd by the end of his fight! He does hit hard i agree but at a lower level, not at Wlad's, Wlad has too many skills and still posesses enough of a punch to remove Williamson (i picked Williamson to stop Mesi ). Overall this is a good show, shame it has to clash in regard to the American viewers -it's not like we are going to get any of the fights over here- with Trinidad-Mayorga on show at the same time. Ouma-Philips is a good fight but i pick Ouma by narrow decision, possibly split and Lacy-Vanderpool is a good fight. Lacy has struggled to stop his men with the famed left hook as Rich Di Bona mentioned so he may struggle against a seasoned pro like Vanderpool.

I'm not being tricked by stats guys I've seen the man punch. At 215lbs he's a very destructive puncher.

I know the odds say Klitschko clocks him and down he goes but I dont think it need be a whitewash KO1 type fight, thats all I'm saying.

I'd rather watch it than Hatton v Stewart that is a fact.

Williamson holds his chin higher than Ryan Rhodes. The first time he gets caught with a Klitschko left-right he'll be like a deer in headlights. I think this match will border on farcical.
