Proof Danny Williams has let it go to his head...

Post by Loftgroov »

Sportinglife.com

Williams said: "I want to fight Klitschko and become WBC champion of the world. That has always been my dream since I was eight years old. It's the one Ali had and it's the one I want.

"I believe I beat one of the best in the division so I want this one next. I have beaten Tyson so I believe Klitschko would be a pushover."

.....

Just make sure you get a nice advertsing deal for the soles of your boots Danny....

I'm not saying he cannot do it. I am a big believer in the effect that one spectacular win can have for a fighter, but Vitali is a TOTALLY different animal to Tyson.

He hangs tough when things turn against him, and won't just sit on the ropes waiting to be counted out.

Totally different opponent true.

But then Danny is a totally different fighter to the 412lb Kirk Johnson or the 59 year old 294lb Corrie Sanders.

Yes, this is true, however saying you can beat Vitali because you beat Tyson, is like saying you could pull Naomi Campbell because you pulled Fat Laura from the local estate.

I think Vitali would have whacked Tyson senseless had they fought, he would have gotten over the initial onslaught, and then sparked him out.

Anybody with a jab, stamina and self-belief has a better than average chance versus Tyson.

DW didn't even use a jab and he still did the trick.

So now Tyson CANT even win a SLUG-FEST.

Although you can't blame Williams for 'talking the talk' in an effort at self-promotion to secure a big fight, I expect him to be well beaten when he fights a genuine top 10 opponent, no matter who it is.

He spoke of Ruiz almost nonchalantly in one interview I read, I would have money on Ruiz to stop him.

I'd give the best of Danny Williams a very good shot at beating Ruiz and Brewster. Both these guys would get walloped by Vitali.

Hmmm... I just can't get the Samil Sam fight out of my mind. Williams really did look quite daft in that.. and I just get the feeling that when he gets hit hard a few time (as Vitali would obviously do) down he'd go.

Sure, he took a few shots from Tyson, but I wonder really whether Tyson still has the venom.

I think Williams will lose his next fight, against whomever it is (unless it's a Tyson rematch)

Yes mate, but if you'd just knocked out Mike Tyson you'd probably be a little up-beat too, wouldn't you?

Where's the harm in that?

You probably gave him next to no chance with Tyson too.

Throw a hard punch in Vitali's direction, and he looks like you've just handed him a live hand grenade.

I thought Danny was looking shabby before Sin Simil Sam. The fact that he made such a meal out of beating Keith bloody Long annoyed me. I can't get the feeling that Klit is a step too far. You say Williams is a different fighter to Johnson. But Klit is a different opponent to a lot of the ones Williams have beaten. Or even lost to.

If Danny can pull it off good for him, but I can't waver the opinion that he will be exposed as a fighter who pulled off one good win.

I dont think Danny is any worse a fighter than Kirk Johnson. Not at all.
I mean it says enough that Lennox didnt even bother to train when scheduled to fight him and nearly suffered the consequences against Vitali.
NBot an excuse for lennox of course, but I think Danny has more to offer than the canadian.

Well Danny's been given a pretty rough ride by many of us, even those who think he's a good fighter have been demanding he steps up to the plate, so I think he's allowed his little moment in the sunshine and I hope he can use this fight as a springboard to bigger and better things and keep proving the doubters wrong. Go for it Danny boy

exactly

what do you want Danny to say....

"well i beat Tyson but Vitali is gonna kick my ass and probably stop me in the middle rounds"

leave the guy alone, confidence is one of the key factors to success in the ring.....

That may be so, but he took bombs of Lennox and Corrie, and didn't hit the canvas once. He may not like being hit, but he doesn't capitulate as soon as he's in trouble. I think he has a better chin than Tyson does at this stage, and he is much bigger and stronger than Tyson too. Lewis struggled to wrestle with Vitali in the clinches, and that was a first for him. You could see that Lewis was shocked by the big man's strength the first time they clinched.

The fact that Vitali is much taller also makes him an utterly different proposition to Tyson. He's nearly 10 inches taller than Mike, and that calls for a different punching technique. We all saw how much Lewis struggled with the punching angle, and he was only a few inches shorter. Although Danny will have faced taller fighterrs more often than Lewis, he hasn't faced anyone as big as Vitali.

I have no problem with Danny's new found confidence, but I hope he doesn't get carried away and think that slugging it out with Vitali is a good idea, because he won't be able to carry on like he did against a 3 rounder like Tyson. Vitali won't quit when the going gets rough, and Danny is the more likely to end up busted up. He really would have to box and bang cleverly against Vitali.

Klit wont quit thats for sure, but land a few decent shots and he could bust open like he is in a WWF cage match

Whoops just remembered what you meant! You mean he will turn into a rockem sockem robot if Danny tags him a few times.

Do we really believe Danny can win a rock'em sock 'em with Vitali? Mind you, who thought he could outslug Tyson.

Difference is that Tyson was finished after 3 rounds mentally, Vitali likes a tear up a lot more. He was cut to fornicate against Lewis and wanted to continue.

No.. but more like;

"well I beat Tyson, and that is something I've always dreamed of doing. Of course now I am receiving more recognition in the division, and who knows, I may have a good shot at the WBC world title!"

I'm not slating Danny for being "up-beat" ..but comments like "so beating Vitali won't be a problem" (having just beat a totally washed up Tyson) are a bit... stupid basically. You just need to keep the win in context.

Totally washed up is a little inaccurate. Great 3 round fighter who will fold if someone has the balls to stay on their feet and hit him back.

For 2 1/2 rounds Tyson looked pretty good to me, but once Danny began to have some success the end was nigh. The cut was the turning point I think, once Tyson saw his own blood, I think the fight started to leave him.

I give Williams a very good chance against Vitali... he has the power and the speed to trouble the very stiff Klitchenko a lot... and I can see him cutting up and stopping Vitali in about 8 or 9 rounds. The fact that Danny seems more confident does not mean that his success has gone to his head in a bad way... also remember Danny was saying he was going to ko Tyson and then he did!.... the power of positive thinking is 90% of the journey towards success.

Moot for the time being, because the winner of Toney/Booker has just been announced as the WBC mandatory for Vitali's title.

I was reading in The Times of all papers that Ian Darke asked Audley if he would be fighting Danny now after his win, ever the modest realist Audley stated that Danny's win over Tyson had given him the right to share the ring with the A-farce. Darke cannily replied "Yes but have you earned the right to share the ring with Danny". :TU: Good old Ian.

Yeah, Audleys become a bit of a joke now... he needs to stop mouthing off and just go and beat someone worthwhile himself!... 8)

Good answer! Danny must be laughing to himself these days, he's turned the tables on Aud big style.

As for Vitali v Williams - you'd have to make the giant Ukranian favorite, but I wouldn't say he's exactly unbeatable either.
