Whilst I have been trying to look at this soap opera objectively, I do agree that Graham should be paid, providing it was contracted.
Stu has it nailed on correct. Who gives a flying fig as to historic entitlement and prior relationship. If Hatton has the standard BBBC 10% contract with Graham, then the latter is entitled to it. If they didn't, then it is all negotiable.

Amazes me how poor boxers are at putting million pound concepts into legally binding contracts.

Everyone is quick to berate hatton without knowing whats happened.

Billy is such a nice guy, he chose to go to vegas for the malignaggi fight, yet didnt attend the fight, what was all that about? so he could go to the pubs and bars and slag off members of the team? this is what people who met him said he did.

So he turned up at that one, knowing what he knows, surely that would unsettle Hatton?

Then roll on a few months and he is at it again, releasing information stating he is suing hatton in the week up to the Pacquiao fight, I also heard rumours he went over to vegas but again didnt go to the fight.

Nice timing Billy!

Any trainer who gets over £500k for one fight wants to think himself lucky.
That one is wrong, HPI, so maybe the other things you 'hear' are also wrong?

People who met him also said, on the Hatton website, that he took time to talk to them and was very polite with his time, if you are gointg to take issue with every person who slags off certain team members then you will have to PM half this forum demanding an explanation.

As for the two week holiday, that was pre-arranged, wasn't it, for a time when the fighter was supposed to be working on conditioning, the biggest mistake was that it allowed people to switch the training regime about, to 'freshen things up', only it didn't do that, did it, as the fighter became ill, didn't he? Or so I hear :TU:

The timing of the legal process is not dictated solely by Graham, nor did he release this latest piece of information. This latest piece of information was leaked with a sole aim, to throw out the inofmration that Graham may have earned X amount for a camp, to get people saying, "Graham got all that dough and wants more, greedy f*cker" and generally make the guy out to be a mercanary, does not seem to be working though, as he comes across quite well when interviewed.

Anyway, good to see you back posting HPI.

From your knowledge do you think that Billy should have received more than the £530k which was reported in the papers?

IF he's contracted to earn 10% of Rickys winnings then yes as didn't Ricky earn approx. £15m for the PBF fight?

It would be 10% of the fight fee thought wouldn't it, not the contracted extras?

no idea, but if he did that would mean his purse was $30million, cant see that can you?

When you say winnings, do you mean the fighters purse or overall earnings? including PPV etc

If graham is suing over the overall earnings, i cannot see how he would be successful, dont trainers only get paid a % of the fight purse?

Nothing to do with what I think mate.

If Floyd is worth 100 grand to work as a part-time coach, and a poor one at that (for this contest certainly), then who knows what anyopne else is worth? It is not for us to decide.

Personally, I am more interested in any news on the rumoured Stevie Forbes contest, as I saw the sparring and think a fight between the two would be quite good!
Where did that rumour come about?

Terry is that in reference to Hatton sparring Forbes prior to the Castillo fight? I thought that was a strange choice considering the oppenent?

The £15m might have been abit excessive, but it was at least £10m ($20m)

Didn't Ricky sacrifice some of his fight purse for the UK PPV rights, if so Billy 'could' have a case

Floyd was not even in the reckoning for the P4P position under Mayweather Snr. Under Mayweather Snr he was struggling to get past the likes of Chavez and Castillo.

Wasn't Castillo his first fight with Roger? Wasnt he under Floyd Sr for the Corrales/Hernandez/Manfredy bouts? In anycase many consider him the best 130lber in history and he learnt his trade from daddy.

If that's the case then all Team Hatton should pack it in, Ricky included. Most of them weren't up to the task in the first place!

if the preacher was there taking 10% of ricky earnings early doors when it was 1-2k per fight and he was travelling the country with ricky (£100-£200 per fight for those less mathematically gifted) then the preacher should be entitled to his 10% of the big money. this is purely based on 'purse' amount of course, it does not include hattons accumulated income from ticket sales, ppv fees, royalty rights, sponsorship etc etc.......... however

if the purse agreement was low due to perceived amounts that would be accumulated by ppv fees etc, then billy may well have a case to argue that, as a 10% interested party, that he should have been involved in the negotiations, and not just a 4ft7 inch carpet salesman !!

At least unlike Mayweather Sr, he turned up on time.
fair play to him for that, but he wasnt equipped to train a fighter at the top level, just like kelly pavliks trainer Jack Lowe. Liabilities. In fairness, Hatton has shown to me that he could be a quick learner with Floyd, he looked like he mastered the pads and in the malignaggi fight he looked better than he had in the past. he will always be a level below pacman and floyd.
The padwork I saw looked like 'pat-a-cake' and was something Ricky himself criticised in the build-up to his fight with Floyd.

I'm not sure who you mean re the Ingles. They charge all their fighters exactly the same. The only one who has ever had a different deal was Hamed - because they were making enough from him as it was.
To an extent yes, but surely 500k for a few months work is the pay off and wanting more than that is just greedy and unrealistic of a trainers worth. Don't you think Graham has made millions off the back of Hatton.

Ingle wanted the same percent deal (was it 10-20?) that he agreed with Hamed when Hamed was 7. When it got to paying Ingle near the 7 figures and Ingle not wanting to take less he was rightfully told to do 1.

The fact is Hatton could get a better trainer in Floyd Sr for 1/4 of the price Billy Graham wanted him to cough up.
Have to disagree mate. The 500k 'for a few months work' isn't really that...it's the cumulation of many years work, surely?

Ingle didn't have any pay deal with Hamed when he was 7, for goodness sake. What he did was put in ten years of graft and knowledge with him for sweet FA...and when the rewards come, Ingle deserved his share.

Hamed did him out of a fair few million. There's a big likelihood if Brendan hadn't taken him in, Hamed might never have earned anything from boxing. Sounds daft but he might never even have given it a try.

boxers make trainers not trainers make boxers

Ricky made Billy and he made Billy a millionaire.

Every boxer that Billy trained left him in the end,Carl Thompson,Ensley Bingham,Anthony Farnell,Michael Gomez,Matthew Hatton,Matthew Macklin. They all left Billy

I am suprised Ricky was the last to leave him. Perhaps Ricky was too loyal.

Billy was overpaid at 10% of the purse. Any purse over £100,000 and the fighter can negotiate with the trainer. Where does Billy get off thinking he should get 10% of every penny Ricky earns.

I have met Billy Graham and found him to be rude and arrogant and not the nice guy some people think of.

I bet it will make interesting reading if it goes to court. I can't see it though. If Billy has any sense he will settle out of court, take the money and run. I am sure he has a lot of skeletons in his wardrobe.

By speaking to the affected parties first. It's common courtesy/deceny. Especially to someone you've known almost half your life.
