FFS, in two years Ken will drawing his OAP!
Maybe he'll call out Duran in a rematch, some 37 years after their first encounter!![]()
Ken says he's in good nick (health wise) but how can you be when you have issues regarding your back such as he has?
Surely a commetary role would be more advisable than this? I wonder if Ken has even explored this avenue?

Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
I wonder whether this will actually happen. A couple of years ago Earnie Shavers was going to do the exact same thing, fight on a white collar show, and thankfully it didn't happen (to the best of my knowledge).
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
I'll bet Cooper would jump at that chance.DavidPayne wrote:Hatton v Buchanan is made.
Scott Harrison v Jim Watt on the undercard with special attraction Cooper v Bugner II.
Anyway, as for Buchanan, I wonder whether this might be a little cry for some help.
Poor guy had everything against him for every part of his life, and he deserves a break. I wonder if someone with money and a heart will fork out something.
If he's only going to take some white collar fights, he can't need sooooo much.
Meantime, I think it's a mistake. The guy's back is screwed, and he had problems with the bottle a while ago, I seem to remember.
He's the greatest Scottish fighter of them all, and one of the greatest European fighters ever, too.
Beating Ismael Laguna twice, once in the oven, is something that few can match -- very few.
My old boss said he saw Buchanana near the tail end of his career, and said that even though he was old and past it, he just knew far too much for his opponent and won easily. He said it was a treat to watch him schooling the other fella.
Anyway, good luck to him, he should be feted, not having to fight near his sixties.
Legal aid?? What happened to that?
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
Jim, I know you have a bitter feud with Brian Donald going on, and just the mention of his very name is the real nature of this post.jimglen wrote:I was in Glasgow in Sept, Kenny niether looked '50' nor was he sober, nor was I. But I'm not a fighter past or present and Buchanan's had some tough bouts even out of the ring... can he get Strong and in shape enough (?), to even last a good distance, never mind being victorious at it?
Dangerous move and potentially life threatning.
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
If Buchanan is sparring amateurs now at Sparta then he is already competing at a higher level than white collar, in my opinion. Kenny Lane had a real fight at 50 (he used to be managed by someone called Doc Kearns), Saoul Mamby boxed 'real' at 60, Duran would still be fighting today but for the car crash, Lupe Aquino would still be fighting but for a freak accident when a boulder crashed down on him out running in the Californian hills, Bob Fitzsimmons was still fighting at 50 (about 90 today) - look how many comebacks the success of old George Foreman inspired, Ron Lyle and Earnie Shavers to name but two!
Allegedly, Kenny's legal challenge pertains to his Lonsdale, European and world belts, which he let go with the understanding they would be displayed in the Scottish Boxing Hall of Fame Museum. Ken is fighting for his very history, his great fighting name.

Thankfully for the white collar boxers - the acorn would have hammered them into the ground like tentpegs even at an advanced age.Boxingnut wrote:I wonder whether this will actually happen. I wonder how many white collar sorts would even have been willing to face him. Surely there would have been somebody to say "hang on a second, bad idea"?
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
I call them white college boys, if I can say that in this PC age.
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
A lot of the lads in the EBF are very competant boxers though. Without even seeing him spar I'd pick them to beat a 64 year old Buchanan thats for sure. Not that I'd want any of the lads to get in the ring with him, helluva thing to have on your concious for life, if it went wrong.
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
he didnt "let them go", he sold them, its been printed he did so for money it is this he is fighting as slanderous.bennie wrote:, Kenny's legal challenge pertains to his Lonsdale, European and world belts, which he let go with the understanding they would be displayed in the Scottish Boxing Hall of Fame Museum. Which quite frankly seeing as he is considering a return to the ring to find money to taking them to court is frankly a little ludicrous.
Seems to me he is his own worst enemy in this.

Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
Really?? Well you live and learn. Any chance you could post the footage on Youtube or something? I remember the local radio station carrying as headline news that Shavers was making a comeback but I later heard it was a white collar show. Was it at a suite at Tranmere Rovers football ground?poodlepoo wrote:Boxingnut wrote:I wonder whether this will actually happen. shavers did fight
ive got the footage, it was effectively a spar though and for charity against an ex bare knuckles champ
lovely bloke the guy he fought too very very nice guy and had i not fallen out of my loft I would have done some work with
another story I suppose
Earnie is a lovely guy, always makes time for people when he is greeting at the Yates's wine lodge in Liverpool. I heard a story that he got beat up by some low lifes with baseball bats a while ago. I hope it was just an urban myth, one of those stories you don't want to be true.

BUCHANAN-DURAN 2
But then again, by the time Duran loses weight, Buchanan will have already setteled his financial problems from public donations.

Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
I think the opposite could be true. A proper pro boxer would almost certainly take it easy on the old boy, but an unlicensed thug may not; seeking bragging rights, etc. And what about the reffing? A BBBC ref would definitely save Ken at the earliest opportunity; what about an unlicensed one?Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:White collar is probably the best boxing ring for him to be in, in fairness, not much boxing skill going on
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
True. I believe he sold them to a millionaire businessman and boxing fan with the rider that they would be exhibited. Kenny was making money but for a worthy purpose and has been let down (allegedly). I seem to recall Duran (ironically) had a similar problem with his belts, having to go to court to get them back or, in Buchanan's case, to sue a newspaper which claims he simply sold them and that was that.J wrote:he didnt "let them go", he sold them, its been printed he did so for money it is this he is fighting as slanderous.bennie wrote:, Kenny's legal challenge pertains to his Lonsdale, European and world belts, which he let go with the understanding they would be displayed in the Scottish Boxing Hall of Fame Museum. Kenny, 2008.
Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
The first fight is one of those boxing myths, you know. Buchanan threw a shot on the bell (canny lad that he is) and Duran retaliated as the animal he was back then. Kenny then had a minute to recover and decided to bow out, his balls aching, his match met.HomicideHenry wrote:BUCHANAN-DURAN 2![]()

Kenny had not won more than three rounds on any of the three cards.

Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
Duran always said Buchanan was his toughest opponent. Quite a statement, considering Duran would go on to lose to Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, Pazienza, etc

I thought he got paid shit loads for his Channel 4 chat show.

Re: Ken Buchanan to make boxing comeback
Btw, why do they call it the 'White Collar' circuit?
Over here in America, something like this would be considered blue collar

I think when the circuit started it really was 'white collar' as it was city types, bankers etc using it as a stressbusterHomicideHenry wrote:Btw, why do they call it the 'White Collar' circuit?
