I really love that fight. My memory isn't always spot on but I'm sure when I watched the fight there is a bit where the American TV/commentators start waxing lyrical about Ingles boxing style and movement. The US commentators don't normally do that about us Brits .

I only have the english version, dark and mccrory commentating I believe. It was on the undercard to Lewis vs Grant. Pretty good night of boxing that was. Ingle put in a marvellous performance, I remember Darke and McCrory shouting for Junior to be stopped as he was taking too much and it was shocking how he managed to stay upright. can't wait to watch it later!
The retired boxers who should be getting attention are fighters like Ingle who deserve a pay out and a pension from the sport!

will Paul get a mention? will he shít!!!!! Benn, Bruno, Collins, Hamed, Eubank all made there money, what about the likes of Ingle, Mason, Watson, Hardy? they will be left on the scrap heap, sadly, quickly forgotten.

Ingle must have made a good few bob though, he should have bought some property or made some good investments with the money. I don't know what he did, but he doesn't seem to have anything left. However, you are right, he should be looked after. He gave his all for the sport and it gave him nothing back in the end.

I think maybe there should be some type of pension available for fighters who have had to undergo brain surgery as a result of a bout. The BBBC could come up with 25k a year for Paul, no problem.

It's the same as what happenned to McClellan. His sisters now look after him round the clock, with no help at all. His insurance money ran out and they have a very difficult time looking after Gerald. The only answer is to take a percentage out of purse's that exceed say £100,000 and put that in a fund or you could have a staggered percentage take, dependant on the amount of the purse. So say a 2% take for the smaller fights and a 5% take for the bigger purses. That would all need to be worked out, so that a certain percentage is taken at a given purse amount and then it would be up to an independant organisation to decide how and when that money was spent. That is the way forward, if boxing wants to take a truely compassionate policy towards ex fighters that have been severly injured in the ring. The rest is all talk and nothing more, which does'nt help the Ingle's, McClellan's or Watson's of the boxing world.

I personally know a former IBF world champion and his biggest payday was 30k for a title defense. With his promoter, corner & training expenses to pay out of that, It doesn't leave a lot.
It seems some people think boxers are making a fortune out of the sport just because they hold a belt

Watched the fight again. There was a moment in the broadcast when HBO showed a montage of Ingles upper body movement so I think the commentators must have been giving him credit there. It was a good performance by Ingle, he did well to survive after Jones detonated a right hand on him (very similar to the one he KO'd Barrera with). However, I have to say, Jones looked really SHOT in the fight. Sky had McCullough being interviewed during the fight and after about 2 rounds he was saying that Jones balance was all over the place (it looked awful) and that Ingle will stop him. Great fight to watch back though, Jones was a warrior and Ingle outmanned him in there.

I think that's what I remember with the American pics. Not often our boys get focused on. Jones was past his best but he was also up against it against Evatt but was able to pull a great KO out of nowhere.
