If Mayweather does beta Marquez but fails to fight Pacquiao, then this Marquez fight is pointless.
It is at welterweight. Floyd and co wouldn't make any concessions with the weight. It's at 147lb's.

I heard 143lbs, mate. Can you get me a link that states otherwise?

It's at WW - pretty sure it was on The Ring's site.

Typical Floyd, really. He's picked a name rather than a challenge.

This time, when he gets to Manny, he won't be able to make the demands - he'll be giving up whatever Manny wants to make the fight.

I'd rather see Mosley/Mayweather and Manny/Marquez face off.

I'm sure I saw 143lbs, but if it is at 147lbs then this is a bit of a joke. Mayweather to win every round.

Just saw a quote from Ellerbe, and he said it's at welterweight, so feck knows what the weight is.

143 lbs would be regarded as a welterweight bout.

But here he specifally said, it's anything between 140lbs and 147lbs - that constitutes welterweight.

Although, like I have already said in this thread, I heard 143lbs from Sky Sports.

Yeah, I've read that. He's stating what constitutes as a welterweight fight because he doesn't want to specify the weight. So he's saying that the limit could be anywhere from 141 to 147 lbs, but we know that the weight limit is 143 lbs now.

But there has been confusion about the fighting weight - 147lbs is an absolute joke. I am a little peeved at Mayweather, 18-month lay-off or not. Pacquiao seems to have set a trend with his fight with de la Hoya. I hope it doesn't continue.

Fight guys from your own divisions, boys, give or take a few viable exceptions.

In anticipation of the July 18th clash between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez, many boxing fans and sports writers have become transfixed with the number 147. Of course 147 refers to boxing’s welterweight division where Mayweather reigned as lineal champion before retiring unexpectedly in 2008. Considered the best pound-for-pound fighter when active, Mayweather returns to face #2 ranked Juan Manuel Marquez; at stake is not simply a win or loss but a claim for the pound-for-pound title and perhaps a chance to face the current best fighter in the world, Manny Pacquiao.

Though the boxing world is energized for Mayweather’s return the agreed upon weight of 143-144 has dominated the headlines. Throughout many online boxing communities which include websites, forums, and message boards, Marquez supporters have made their displeasure with the weight agreement heard. They argue that Marquez is too small for 144, he is too short, never fought above lightweight, unproven at welter, or that his power would be diminished at the higher weight.. In addition, boxing writers like Ring Magazine’s Michael Rosenthal has focused on the weight issue in the aptly titled article “Marquez's Disadvantages Are Increasing.” In the report he states that the fight will in fact be held at 147 however that could simply be a misinterpretation. His reasoning is that the fight will be held at welterweight which has a 147 lb. limit, however even if the fight were held at 143-144 it would still be considered a welterweight fight. The match was originally announced at a catchweight below 147 and that is where it likely will remain.

Decent argument, but what do you reckon the end result will be - I'm going for a 118/110 decision to you know who.

Should be at light welterweight.

A wide decision for Mayweather. Marquez will probably land a few good shots, but not enough.

Agree... he shown he can be hurt badly and just doesn't have the speed to hang with Floyd.

JMM is still probably the best technician in the sport though. I know Ian Darke almost has an orgasm when he commentates on JMM fights

I give JMM a very good chance. He certainly isn't slow - he had the speed to hang with Pac. Does anyone know whether this is on Sky? As London is included on the promotional tour, I'd guess it's on Sky Box Office. That would be 2 PPVs in close succession, though, with Khan-Kotelnik just 3 weeks earlier.
