so who was best hatton or hamed?
so who was best hatton or hamed?
as we all reflect on hattons decisive loss to pacman,i started to think about how he'd fallen short when taken to the next level, against both manny and mayweather.
This reminded me of hamed who like hatton had a long unbeaten record before being tamed by barrea.
So who was the best of the two? hatton beat kosta zu at light welter and won a version of the welterweight title as well but for me hamed unified the featherweight division and beat all contenders prior to barrea, so i go for him as the better, but its a close call, opinions please

Talent wise, Hamed.... achievement wise and fulfilling potential... Hatton.
Hamed didn't beat them all... many considered Espinosa to be the best for a large part of Hamed reign, and there was Morales and Marquez around also (not bad fighters). Hard to know just how good Naz was.

Hamed, just a better and more complete fighter
Re: so who was best hatton or hamed?
Hamed - a hundred times better, more talented, more entertaining, more creative, more powerful.
Re: so who was best hatton or hamed?
hamed without doubt...but they both carved out similar careers when family members got greedy and did not want to pay promoters/trainers and managers the money that they were due !!

Hamed without doubt all though you have to give Ricky credit for achieving an unbeliveable amount given his actual talent. Both are (Hamed) and will be (Hatton) sorley missed. Who misses Calzaghe?

Re: so who was best hatton or hamed?
I don't remember Espinosa being considered better than Hamed. And Morales and Barrera, while obvious near-weight rivals, were operating at super-bantam for almost all of Hamed's reign. He absolutely DID clean up at featherweight.
Hamed doesn't have a Tszyu-type win on his record, but then again he didn't lose as badly to Barrera as Hatton did to Mayweather and Pacquaio. Plus I think we'd all agree Hamed would have done much better if his head wasn't so far up his own arse at that point (not to say he would have won, though).
So I'd say Hamed, marginally. The lack of a "defining" win, but greater longevity and less damaging defeat in true A-class.

Hamed was the better fighter.
Hatton maxed out on his talent, though still arguably under-performed in his biggest test - in much the same way Hamed did.
There careers are similar in many ways, so many ways.

Naz. one of the very best ive seen, and I'm told he was even better in the gym than in his fights.Such a shame that his family got involved and he stopped training.I hope he appreciates how much the Ingles did for him.
Re: so who was best hatton or hamed?
I think Hamed because of that punch. It gave him a chance in any fight, even when the chips were down. Barerra respected this because for all the talk that he 'owned' Hamed when they fought etc he didn't come close to stopping him because he didn't want to leave himself open - he knew that given a chance Hamed could flatten him.
But yes Hatton probably acheived more in terms of to the maximum of his potential - I don't really think there are that many ifs and buts where Ricky is concerned, but with Hamed you just wonder what he could have done if he had kept his head down and not got up his own arse. The boxing skills that saw him winning every round before he took out his opponent, they went by the wayside as he just became a limbo dancing headhunter.

Hamed. No contest.
Re: so who was best hatton or hamed?
Hamed by a street.
As much as I like Hatton his wins against Tsyzu, Mallignaggi, Urango, Castillo and Collazo are not better as a collective than Johnson, Medina, Ingle, Kelley, Bungu, Vasquez, McCulloch, Soto and Robinson.
Also Naz was not KO's in 2 in his biggest test.
Biggest talent and better fighter = Hamed
Biggest disappointment = Hamed

Hamed was unorhadox, but talent wise, he was way beyond Hatton, but Hatton beat bigger names or more recognised names in Tsyzu and Castillo, plus had the mega fights with Mayweather and Pacquaio. Hamed had a series of ordinary defences and the only two elite fighters that he fought were Kelly and Barrera, winning one and losing to the other. Hamed should have moved up to different weights and could have been a four or even five weight world champion, but he lost is heart for the game and did'nt train properly towards the end of his career. Hamed should also have taken the re-match with Barrera and fought Morales and Marquez, so that will always be a slur on his career.
I miss Hamed a lot........But i won't miss Hatton at all
Just being honest.

I agree with this, apart from the bit I've bolded.... Kostya Tszyu is better than any of Hamed's win IMO.Wrists wrote:Hamed by a street.

I agree with ths, although I will miss Hatton also - still ONE of the truly best British fighters in terms of ability and achievement.... I think Hamed could have been not just one of, but THE best in ability.Quixall wrote:I agree with you Stu....stujones wrote:Talent wise, Hamed.... achievement wise and fulfilling potential... Hatton.

Its a shame Hamed didn't look at a Super Bantam or even a Bantamweight challenge. There were some terrific champions around at that time in those weights when Hamed was coming through. Its also a shame that he didn't fight Steve a few months before, cause his last two successful defences showed a marked deterioration in his performance.... I think Steve was really struggling with the weight and was looking stale before Hamed, and then had the bad preperation ontop of that.
Whilst, Hamed fought a good range of very good fighters - I think Hatton's two best wins (Tszyu and Castillo) were better than Hamed best win (Kelley).... both failed against the elite.

The only difference, i would say, is that Hatton never had the attributes to beat the very top fighters at their primes. It may be a bit churlish to say, but both Castillo andTsyzu were on their way down, when Hatton fought then, which is a typical allegedly move. Hamed, on the other hand, definately had the talent to beat any elite fighter, but lacked the motivation to keep learning and training correctly etc etc.
But, as you say, ultimately they both fell short.
Re: so who was best hatton or hamed?
Agreed Tsyzu was a better win than Hamed ever achieved.
As a collective though Naz's resume was better by far
And he was not knocked cold or down in his defeat against the elite fighter.

Although personally, for me, one great win and wins over "nobodies" is better than a host of wins over B great opposition.Wrists wrote:Agreed Tsyzu was a better win than Hamed ever achieved.

I think if Calzaghe could scratch some of his better wins.... e.g. Woodhall, Reid, Starie, Brewer, Mitchell... and swap those for a win over a peak Roy Jones - he would have a much better resume/legacy than he curently has.
Re: so who was best hatton or hamed?
Hamed was a better fighter, but Hatton stepped up to the plate more. Hamed was much like Hatton and Calzaghe in that there were many nights where he fought opponants that people weren't all that interested in seeing him fight.
Hamed was more talented, but Hatton has the better resume.
