Haye vs Thompson Tickets

Post by The Gaffer »

How long before the fight will tickets go on sale and is it best to buy them direct from the venue?

Cheers in advance for any replies.

There is a promotion in Boxing News at the moment where you collect coupons over the next four weeks and then buy two tickets and get two tickets free.

Otherwise they are on sale at Wembley box office.

Apparently Garry Delaney and Roman Greenberg are both on the undercard so should be fairly decent.

Yeah, Small is one of our best prospects. He'll be having his second outing and the South Coasts favourite son, Matthew Barney will be gracing the canvas too! :TU:

I thought Delaney was calling it a day? Preferring a beer and a curry on a Saturday night to getting beaten up and all that :-?

Barney, great. I'm from Southampton so should really give the lad my support, but he's such a dull fighter. Still, what a great night when he got the decision over Oakey Cokey. Hahahaha.

Do they have the ring in the middle of the Arena for the fights?

I've only ever been to gigs at Wembley Arena and the stage is at one end. So presumably if it's moved to the centre you'll get a fairly good view wherever you are sat?

They will probably cut half the arena off with a curtain.

Depends how many tickets they sell I guess. I reckon this one is going to be well attended, I am going to try and get some mates to come along.

i dunno man. A lot of boxing fans are going to this fight. More people from this and the other forum are going to this fight than any other before. But i can't seeing it attracting too many fans from outside the sport.

Having said that, the Wembley public do love their sport...so it could attract some casual fans buying tickets on the night.

I am going to rope as many mates as possible along, this is precisely the sort of fight which will appeal to the casual fan, provided they heard about it of course.

I really hope this fight does well, it deserves to, as both fighters are putting a lot on the line for this one. I'll certainly be hyping it up as much as possible.

yeah i'm like that, telling my mates to watch out for it, but i doubt they'd be arsed to come a long.

anyone seen much promotion for this fight? All i seen is an interview with David Haye on the Sun's website. I hope the papers give it some hype during the week of the fight.

I'll send off a piece to a newspaper myself if needs be. This is just the tonic our current scene needs.

I think it should be well attended. The fact BN are doing a special offer of buy two tickets get two free should help.

Haye has just done a good Q&A session on the Sun website so that too should give good publicity.

Remember before the Karmazin - Walker fight how the Sun did a weeks publicity? If they could do the same for this I reckon it could sell out.

Can't wait for it. Can afford to get better seats now I don't need to bother shelling out for Hatton in October or Harrison v Skelton.

Refreshing words from Haye here as well. Hopefully some other up and coming British boxers will follow his example.

http://www.boxingcentral.com/modules.ph ... e&sid=4724

Rising cruiserweight star David Haye is characteristically upbeat in anticipation of his first ‘world’ title fight next month when he challenges IBO champion Carl ‘The Cat’ Thompson at London’s Wembley Arena. 23 year old Haye makes his 11th professional appearance against the teak tough veteran and should he emerge victorious will have bettered the record of cruiserweight legend Evander Holyfield who took the WBA cruiser crown from Dwight Qawi in his 12th paid fight eighteen years ago.

The Thompson fight will be a calculated gamble for ‘Team Haye’ who are well aware that the 40-year-old Mancunian still carries lethal punching power in both hands. In February this year Thompson got off the canvas to stop tough South African Sebastian Rothman in nine compelling rounds and pick up the fringe IBO belt. The nature of the final knockout punch against Rothman illustrated that ‘The Cat’ has lost none of the durability and venom which took him to WBO title honours in 1997.

Haye, in his refreshing attitude towards a sport whereby you all too often know the outcome before the opening bell, has no reserves about entering deeper waters:

“I’m buzzing. It’s great to have these kinds of fights that you can get up for, and get fully focused for. This is the type of fight I wanted to have when I first signed those professional forms.”

Already Haye has proved to some of the doubters that he can step up to the next level and perform more than adequately in the higher class. In May this year he TKO’ed former IBF belt holder ‘King’ Arthur Williams in three rounds. No one denies that Williams was past his best, but for a fighter in his 10th pro outing, to stop an opponent of that experience was impressive.

You could argue that Haye has been forced into these calculated risks after struggling to secure bouts against numerous domestic names. Many potential ‘pretenders’ seemed reluctant to step in with the former amateur star.

“I hope the rest of the British prospects look at what I’m doing,” said Haye.

“And look at the respect that I’ll be getting and thinking that is the way they want to go and hopefully tell their promoters that’s the way they want to go and to let them off the leash if they are good enough.

“That’s killing boxing today. That is one of the main reasons that boxing is not a mainstream sport because it’s not competitive.”

It’s fighters like Haye who can save the reputation of the sport. That’s assuming he continues up the ladder and onto the world stage. Firstly he has to get past the enigmatic and durable Carl Thompson next month, and that, as David Haye gladly accepts, is no certainty.
