I wouldn't have gone for either of the two.
Over the whole decade the man who provided the most excitement (and had several great wins) was Holyfield.
He started by beating Douglas, gave us three good fights against Bowe, put a conclusive end to Tyson as a force in the division, and ended the decade giving a top ten/fifteen all time heavy arguably his hardest two fights (unlucky to recieve only a draw and a defeat i thought). Three time champion, thirteen title fights over the time span, and he fought seven matches against the best three heavies (other than him). Two of those fights recieving the "fight of the year" accolade.
Based purely on achievement there are probably more deserving candidates, but for quality of opposition, excitement and ability over the whole of the decade it's tough to argue against the man.

I DO AGREE WITH A LOT OF WHAT GLITTERMONKEY SAID.HOLYFIELD IS A WARRIOR,AND HAS PROVIDED SOME GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. BOXING IS ABOUT HITTING AND NOT BEING HIT,ACHIEVING AS MUCH AS U CAN,WITHOUT SUSTAINING TOO MUCH DAMAGE.WITH THAT I WOULD HAVE TO SAY ROY JONES JR,THE MAN IS A GREAT IN ANY ERA. IBF MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMP(BEATING HOPKINS)
IBF SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMP(BEATING TONEY)
3 TIME LIGTHTHEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP( ACHIEVING THE
UNDISPUTED TAG IN HIS SECOND REIGN)
NOT TO MENTION WBA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION, BECOMING THE 1ST MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION TO DO THIS FOR OVER A HUNDRED YEARS. ACHIEVEMENTS ARE HARD TO MATCH.[/list]
