Going pro
Is it the ABA's first then? If you are going pro do you intend to stay on the Wirral?
I don't think there are too many managers and trainers around on the pro scene in Liverpool that you would be spoilt for choice. Though there are some good trainers. I'm sure plenty of other people have told you to consider all options carefully.
I have not been on the amateur schene for a while, so I can't think of too many top boxers from Wirral that are ready to turn pro - could you give me a clue (weight etc ) as I am curious (N. Mc?)

Nicky McDonald... (moreton)
Wes Fleming (Pro) (Moreton)
Jamie McKeever (Pro) (Birkenhead)
Brian Kilbride (ex Pro) (Wallasey)
Colin (KID) Macauly (ex Pro) (My Current Trainer)
Ernie Shavers (American Ex Pro) (Moreton)
My Self (Moreton) 62kg (lightweight)
Younger Lads.
Jamie (tiger) Tollerton (15) (Pensby)
Greame McGinty (15) (Nocturum)
^^ Just a couple of younger lads who i reckon will eventually go pro.
-------------------------------------------
I've only had a handfull a amatuer fight (7) won 6. My trainer has had a talk with me and we have both decided that its time i moved on into the pro circuit but i'm staying AM for this coming season to gain a little bit more experience...

Just shows how long it is since I was involved in the amateur boxing!!
I remember Nick McDonald's first bout, because he boxed a boy from our club who was also having his first bout. both of them were tiny. Nick grew at a faster rate and was able to get more contests. Our lad stayed small (he still is!!) and didn't get as much experience. Nick is a very good lad. I saw him box on the USA v England show at Everton Park. Is Nick going pro?
Jamie McKeever seems as though he has been a pro forever! He did go over early on though. I remember him and Wes from the championships (NABC and Jnr ABA's. I had a middleweight who won both titles the same year Wes was doing well). Wes was a good, strong boxer too. I think the last time I saw him compete was when he lost to Carl Wall in the divisionals (also at Everton Park). I will have to check out how he is going as a pro. Is he still with Georgie Treble?
I last spoke to Earnie at the Boxing Hall of Fame inductions two years ago. Myself and a friend interviewed him (and many others) for Canadian cable TV (where my friend is from). I have the show on tape as it went out on TV (very much edited from all of the footage we took).
If you are in touch with Earnie let him know my book on Charley Burley is ready, as he wanted a copy ;o) If Earnie is coaching it would be good to pick his brains as he received some coaching from Archie Moore!!
Good luck with the boxing.
