Yeah- he comes across as being a prize tosser. Its OK doing all this "showboating," but it just seems facetious when he is fighting a hand-picked opponent who is clearly smaller than he is.jBacca wrote:
M Walsh looked ok getting the stoppage, but can't help thinking (and hoping) that high chin of his gets tagged in the future.

Re: Spoiler - Cleverley v Boyle
Fair play to Cleverley he made this fight easy. I didn't expect it to be this one sided and such an early stoppage. I guess his corner saw a pro longed beating coming his way so saved him from that.
I'm looking forward to Cleverley-MacIntosh now. Very interesting scrap.
Good to see Mitchell back, i presume he'll be on the 27 June card at the O2 now possibly against Roman Martinez.
Chisora was a disgrace. Really turned me off him see that.
Stevie Smith looked good early doors then seemed to slump off. Early days but i like his movement and shot selection, seems a very busy fighter.
The card looke better onpaper than it turned out to be.

Do you think so? "On paper" it looked very predicatable too, although yeah, I did expect more from Boyle. That said, it seemed a very premature stoppage to me. This was, after all, a title fight!El Raincoat wrote:

Well there were several top prospects on the card. It always good to see them. I agree it wasn't the best of cards. But you can't argue with the guys on the card Cleverley, Smith, Walsh Bros, Mictchell (comeback fight after a year nearly out), Chisora.whicker wrote:Do you think so? Well, I can certainly argue with the quality of the opposition.El Raincoat wrote:

I'm not the sort of person who goes to boxing, or tunes into a show, just to see a "Top Prospect" V random journeyman.
Seems that nowadays EVERY hometown fighter is consider a "top prospect"- mainly because they are matched in such one sided fights!

I hear you matey. Cleverley was given a pretty late call to fight Boyle when Kel Brook was injured and as we've already agreed we all though Boyle would go alot further and make a good fist of it.whicker wrote:Well, I can certainly argue with the quality of the opposition.El Raincoat wrote:

Mitchell is a locla on the cusp of a world title but injured his hand and needed a fight to get back and shake of the ring rust and test the hand. Before going back to the level he was before.
Chisora-Buitlin was a rematch of what was apparently a good scrap previously. It also aloud Chisora to showcase his talent before a British title challenge (Why oh why he bit Buitlin i'll never now, crazy!)
Stevie Smith is i believe the best up and coming talent that didn't go to the Olympics.
The Walsh bros are ticket sellers around those parts.
I agree if Prospects aren't your think, it was a very one sided and obvious who was likely to win most bouts though.
Several of these guys will step up nect tiem Cleverley-McIntosh for the British 175 title, Mitchell could go for a world title & Chisora could also fight for a British title.

Yeah- a good show is one that mixes bouts- some "prospect V journeymen" some "debuts" some well matched undercard fights, a main support and a main event .
A good example was the Hayemaker show in Liverpool.

It is good to get a few bous that are genuine 50-50's but the promoters i guess will tell us they can't do them everytime & need to build guys up which we all appreciate and i guess want to happen sooner rather than later. But these things take time.
Hayemaker are very aggressive with matching there prospects. David Haye proved that himslef fighting Carl Thompson very early in his career and though he lost he bounced back. I think George Groves will be similary matched and likely David Price.

Re: Spoiler - Cleverley v Boyle
I didnt see the point in last nights matchup whatsoever. Boyle got knocked out in the first stage of prizefighter, Cleverley has beaten the Prizefighterchamp Tony Oakey. So last night was just another ticking over fight, he will have learnt nothing.

Exactly what I thought!! He was also supposd to be able to punch so should ahve been given a little more time!! Imagine if he's a slow starter?? I think the end was stupid and to stop a TITLE fight after 2 rounds just ain't right..I'll put it this way, Had I been Boyle that would be the last time I'd have that corner team guiding my career!!
Re: Spoiler - Cleverley v Boyle
Yeah- I've watched it again, and Boyle was on the ropes throwing punches back just as it was stopped.Bomber 1 wrote:

The trainer mentioned an injury near Boyle's eye, in an interview after, and said "well, its 12 rounds." But couldn't they have at least let Boyle see the round out and then taken a look how bad it was?
Re: Spoiler - Cleverley v Boyle
Cleverly, Smith and Mitchell are all good fighters, potentially world level. It's a bit early to say for Smith, but the other two have some nice skills. Cleverly's chin hasn't really been tested yet, but he's moving along nicely so far and developing a bit of power, especially with bodyshots. Mitchell will always be a bit gung-ho, but will be in exciting fights at the top level, even if he won't be there for long.
Re: Spoiler - Cleverley v Boyle
They can't rate Cleverly too much or they would match him tougher, pound for pound Smith opponent is better than the Welshman's recent challengers
