Green v RJJ
Green v RJJ
Reports that Green will fight on undercard of Jones v Lacey in August with a view to fight Jones, in Australia, later this year. It would appear from reports Jones is entertaining the idea to come to Australia. Few promotions would have the financial pull to make this happen, but I think Green Machine promotions could.
Be a good fight for Danny. Hopefully this comes off.

WTF, Liver crusher, youv'e started 4 different threads in the last 2 weeks about Mundine and Geale, why come into a new thread(non related to Geale) talking shit about Geale? Irritating is the adjective that best describes you!
I hope Greeny fights on the undercard, and i hope RJJ does come to Australia, i would fly to Perth for that fight, that would generate the interest in boxing that Australia needs.
And it would be the best prep for the rematch with the Man.

Re: Green v RJJ
The most positive thing for Aussie boxing is going to be when Geale, who lacks the cockiness and mouth of that goose Mundine, knocks his arse into next year and ends the joke that his career has become.
Respect is earnt and not attached to those who talk rubbish and do not strive to be the best at what they do. Mundine may be the best at what he does...If that is beating up bums.
I hope Geale takes Aussie boxing to the next level over the next few years whether he is capable of the show biz side of it or not.

Re: Green v RJJ
I hope Geale wins as most do, but the harsh reality is Geale hasn't fought anyone near the level of Mundine, and i totally agree Mundine is the king of bums, but along the way Mundine has fought at least 6-7 world class fighters and had some wins, Geale has a prospect win against Dawson.whyohbee wrote:The most positive thing for Aussie boxing is going to be when Geale, who lacks the cockiness and mouth of that goose Mundine, knocks his arse into next year and ends the joke that his career has become.

A lot for one man with plenty of talent and all the right tools but very little world class experience to carry don't you think?

So when do we start talking about the possibility of the Titled thread?

Re: Green v RJJ
Interesting if Green does fight Taylor in August, he should still be able to back up and fight on the Jones v Lacey undercard. I can't see Taylor going 2 rounds with him.
I don't think Green has missed any boat !! He just isn't sure which one to jump on.
He could easily become another force in the Light Heavyweight ranks if he takes that road. I hope he does. The Mundine fight will always be there, the only factor is how much money it will generate if choc loses on Wednesday. My way of thinking is Green is in a great position.

There is a growing feeling in Australia that potentially the biggest fight in Australian boxing history is heading to the “rocks” as both former WBA light-heavyweight champion Danny Green (26-3, 23 KO’s) and former WBA super-middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (35-3, 23 KO’s) cannot agree the detail over weight and venue for their proposed re-match. Green now looks likely to try and secure a fight at 175 pounds with American Roy Jones Jnr, later in 2009 and is confident a match can be made. It was confirmed in the Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday that Danny Green and his team are now looking to a potential match with Roy Jones Jnr as a preferred option, rather than a re-match with his arch rival Mundine. Green stated, “We’ve been in negotiations with Roy and his management team for a while and it looks promising.”
He added further, “Having a win over Roy Jones Jnr would be an honour, something you would be proud of to tell your grandchildren because of the calibre of fighter he is.”
Green came out of retirement in April and defeated South African Anthony Van Nierkirk inside two rounds at the Challenge Stadium in Perth, Western Australia which was stage one of a planned route to a multi-million dollar showdown with Mundine, who out pointed him in 2006 in Sydney. It is reported that their original fight generated each fighter in excess of $5m and took place in front of a live gate of 37,000 fans at the Sydney Stadium and generated over 800,000 PPV buys in Australia.
Mundine won their original fight on wide scores of 118-112, 118-111 and 116-113 after dominating the match with superior speed and boxing.
It was expected that the 36 year old Green would take on Mundine’s last victim Shannon Taylor in August in Sydney in the next stage of his comeback but his plans now look likely to re-direct to appearing on the undercard of the Jeff Lacy v Roy Jones Jnr match in New Orleans on August 22nd.
Green announced his return to the boxing ring when he landed in a helicopter at Perth Subiaco Oval on February 10th and stated the return was purely targeted at a re-match with Mundine. He stated, “This fight is about revenge and redemption – Mundine beat me fair and square last time and this return in about settling the ledger.”
Part of the failure to ink the re-match with Mundine has been the disagreement over venue and the weight division the match up will take place. Green is adamant the bout should be at 175 pounds and the venue should be the 40,000 capacity Subiaco Oval in Perth, Western Australia. This is because in their initial match, Green agreed to fight in Sydney, where Mundine was the local fighter.
Mundine however has dropped down to the 160 pound middleweight division and takes on unbeaten Daniel Geale for the IBO title on Wednesday and has recently stated he has no interest in the Green match, preferring to challenge WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm as the mandatory challenger and then take on Kelly Pavlik in a middleweight unification match. Indeed, he has recently stated that his match with Geale will be his last fight in his native Australia and sees his own career progression in the US, rather than a re-match with Danny Green.
Many observers believe that the planned re-match will indeed happen in early 2010 but the route to that match may not run straight. Whatever the relative issues over weight and location for a re-match, the revenue generation of Green V Mundine II would make it the biggest fight in Australian boxing history with each fighter expected to earn in excess of $5m.
Mundine’s IBO middleweight title challenge against unbeaten champion Daniel Geale can be seen on Main Events PPV on Wednesday from the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Re: Green v RJJ
This just gets more and more interesting. I think the Green-Mundine matchup is made more interesting if Green has already beaten Jones (and despite Jones being well past his best, that fight is anything but a given as Jones has the style to cause Green big problems) and Mundine has beaten Sturm (again, not a given).

Re: Green v RJJ
Oh, and does anyone else fail to see why RJJ would want to fight Green? He isn't a big name in the states and doesn't have a world title. My only thought is that after seeing Mundine comfortably beat Green, Jones feels he can do the same or better.
Re: Green v RJJ
probably. RJJ doesn't look for the absolute cream anymore. Sheika was 4 years past his prime.jezzamundo wrote:Oh, and does anyone else fail to see why RJJ would want to fight Green? Re: Green v RJJ
Green has been a lot more impressive at 12 stone 7 than he was at 12 stone. I can't see Mundine going after Green as a light heavyweight and Green has no purpose in weakening himself by going back to super middleweight.

It's all about the benjamin’s baby. If Danny can come up with the cash he can probably sort something out... If he can get RJJ to Aus for a fight I would give my left leg to go and see it!!!toppity wrote:probably. RJJ doesn't look for the absolute cream anymore.
