David,

You and others have every right to keep going back to that fight - however those that have spoken to Clinton will tell you everything and I mean everything that could go wrong went wrong in the lead up to that fight - I am not disrespecting anyone when I say that Clinton was not happy about a variety of issues but used his discretion to take things on the chin to coin a phrase.

Clinton decided changes were needed after that fight and has indeed made those changes - I for one was extremely sad that Clinton and Richard Poxon went their seperate ways as I believe Poxon was one of the reasons why Clinton made it to World Champion status - they also were very close even when fights were not happening - Clinton thought changing trainers was one of the changes he had to make if he was to have one final shot at the big time.

Clinton is now trained by Glyn Rhodes - I personally think the change has done a lot of good for Clinton as Rhodes is a character who Clinton gets on well with and his gym is also one of the busier ones in Sheffield and the surrounding area - Clinton as a person is back to his old self and its great to see and hear!!!

Whilst Clinton is one of the older fighters we have at the higher levels in this country he is also one who I honestly believe could win a world title - I acknowledge there are many of you who will state things to the contrary.

Yes but fkk me blue he said all the same things when he started being trained by Poxon and so did you after the Witherspoon period.

Woods trundled around like a car-park fighter, no matter what occurred in the run up are you telling me he forgot how to fight? He was presented with basic movement from a 39 year old foe and didn't have any answers, despite being 15 years a pro himself.

It was an awful performance.

Its a meaningless fight now.

David,

Sometimes people fall out - look at us 2 - we act like long lost lovers - but maybe one day we will have a fall out, it might even happen on this forum!!! :TU:

Excuse me for being so flippant - it is so so difficult to explain the extent of Clinton's mood in the lead up and during the Tarver fight and its too easy to blame everyone except for Clinton for that horrible performance - clearly the majority of blame must lie on Clinton's shoulders completely clear on that issue - all I am stating is that there were genuine mitigating circumstances that made things even worse than what they were that is all.

I also fully realise - I have no evidence so as to speak to back my up other than my instinct and that is Clinton Woods was differnt for the Muriqi fight - I ackowledge Muriqi wasn't a genuine world class performer but nonetheless he was a dangerous opponent for Woods if you were to believe he was on the slide that much!!! :o

Give Clinton a chance in his next fight - lets see how he does - he might lose who knows but as long as he goes out fighting and we say "that was a whole lot better than the Tarver performance" then in my view that will be a good thing.

Hopkins, Dawson, Erdei, Garay, Tarver, Johnson, Diaconu, Cloud, Woods, Green.
You could argualy put Jones above Woods and Green, but whatever... what I meant was that Jones is top 10 with various sanctioning bodies, therefore a win over him carries political merit.
With that I agree, but I don't think it should hold any meaning with the more "hardcore" fans. I don't hope BN or BM paint this up.... like they didn't (fair play) Calzaghe vs Jones. It shouldn't be classed a world title fight for the "skinny lad from Sheffield" and a "joke" for Calzaghe.

If it was a joke world title fight for Joe, it should be classed the same for Clinton... A world title is a world title.

I think that Clinton got over-awed with fighting Tarver in the states and let it all get to him. I don't know about any of the pre-fight build up, others are better placed than me to comment on that, but it was essentially down to Clinton not being in the same class as Tarver. Before the fight, i was on another boxing site and most posters were predicting a win for Woods and a fairly easy one at that. Not me, i thought right from the start, that Tarver would have too much guille and skill for Clinton. Tarver is an ageing fighters, but has been in with the best in the business, Hopkins, Jones and skill wise, he has far more in the locker than Clinton, who is technically quite limited, but makes up for that with raw determination, strength and courage, attributes which have taken him a long way. He beat Glenn Johnson, because Johnson has a similar style to Clinton, but he struggles with techinically skillful fighters with fast hands, ie, Jones and Tarver.

There is a definite rumour circulating that Chad Dawson is seriously considering vacating.
I do find this hard to believe given the situation at light heavy and the fact he's already let one title go, sounds more like wishful thinking to me....why doesn't Hobson stump up the cash to bring the WBA champ Garay over? Argentina doesn't exactly have a huge boxing scene and he's travelled before, I'd see that as an easier way to a world title that the IBF route.

Tavaris Cloud is trying to force a mandatory against Dawson - the word is Dawson could vacate - then its down to the IBF who fights for the title!!!

Got no idea mate!! :TU: All I have been told is that Cloud's team are trying to get the fight with Dawson - then if Dawson vacates hopefully something might materilise with Clinton - if thats not the case then another route or 2 are presently being explored.

I am confident that come Sept/Oct - Clinton Woods will be in a big fight.

Apparentley the Cloud fight is up in the air. This light-heavy division, I cant see the Woods for the Tavaris.

Muriqui gave Tarver a torrid time and in a lot of peoples eyes, won that fight.
Woods made Muriqui look ordinary and Tarver made Woods look out of his depth.
Every fight is different, consistency,a good team behind ya and to be able to travel well are the important elements.
