Big chance that Mcdermott would have got
stopped anyway, but that small percentage of
maybe Barker coming in again and running on to one
still remains, if Barker pushed him back with next fluury
then stop it, it's a fight.
Imagine the great fights over the years with twists and turns.
Eg; Corrales/ castillo1 , back to 70s & 80s, great fights involving
warriors like saad muhammad, bobby chacon & Boza edwards.
We would have been denied fight of the year fights if those
guys as soon as they got hurt got stopped.
This is boxing, this is why we love it fellas, if you don't
want to watch people getting hit ....don't watch.

Agreed. If McDermott gets pushed back with a flurry of punches then stop it, however he has every right to feel aggrieved at Dave Parris' decision (who was trying to make up for last week I think).

What about Hatton V Pacman? Hatton was clearly seriously hurt in that first round, and then look what happened in Round 2.

McDermott shou;d have been at least given the chance to go 'out on his shield' as it were. No warrior likes a fight to be stopped too soon like that.

As i said, this is the hurt business, the bell nearly goes
and Hatton gets knocked out with one punch, who could
anticipate that, what, stop it before he gets koe'd then.
Unfortunately fighter's die in the ring, they know the risks
and are prepared to take them.
The referee's need to get the balance right, boxing needs
more fans, and stopping fights too early won't encourage
that.

British refs are certainly stopping fights too soon, but only when the "underdog" is on the reciving end.

Remember Khan being allowed to fight on when he was obviously still out of it.

The McDermott stoppage was terrible.

Yes, they are stopping fights too soon.

You have to be careful when it's been a long, hard slog and heavy punches are slamming home, but in the Barker-McDermott fight the ref should have given McDermott the benefit of the doubt, but be extra alert to step in if needs be.

I don't think for a split second that McDermott had any hope of winning, but he still deserved the opportunity to try.

We often crucify some boxers for not giving their all, but why should they bother to get themselves in a formidable, winning mindset if some of our refs (and it is only some of them) don't offer a level playing field ?
