Advice for "Professional" boxing show

I am thinking of organising a show with boxers both ex amateur and pro taking part but not under the jurisdiction of either the ABAE or BBBC, (but maybe under the EBF European boxing federation or the BBF British Boxing Federation) I was just wondering if there is any reason why I cannot bill the event as a Professional Boxing show in that boxers would receive half of any ticket sales. Thanks for any advice.

Unless you have money to burn dont do it.

You can bill it as Pro boxing with either EBF or BBF so ong as you include the bodies name on the ads etc. If your looking some help Pm me and I'll put you in touch with a guy that runs EBF shows in Ireland.

Not strictly true Eric - if you want to run your show along the lines of the EBF or the BBF you still have to go through one of the regional promoters - like an "an association with" - thats certainly the case for the EBF side of things.

But if it's not BBBC-affiliated, what's to stop anybody putting on their own shows under their own banner (so long as they fulfill whatever legal requirements apply to the EBF et al?). It's not as if the EBF/BBF "govern" unlicensed boxing, so why should anybody need to seek their permission?

A very good point indeed - something similar cropped up in a conversation at the weekend !!

However if life was that easy then a lot more people would get up to what is going on - however theres treading on toes and treading on toes I would prefer to edge my way in there a little more subtly is probably the best way to answer your post.

Not as easy as it looks!! - for what you have wrote you need contacts in the right places - for those people to participate the show needs to be put together with a certain amount of professionalism!!! - which is why in my view it is wise to latch onto the EBF or similar organisations as you can put on almost whatever fights you want but all the contacts are there for you!!

Depends on how much you pay the fighters and how much the tickets are - and whether you can get the para medics etc etc for nowt!!!

Went to one show in Middlesbrough and it was packed out - at least 600 people in there - going to another show soon - at least 400-500 tickets done!!

If you want to run your own show then you can, you dont have to affilate to any federation,,,,
all you need are the fighters, venue, ring, security, tickets, official. simple,
I know as I have promoted ..........anyone else promoted?

ive got my own show coming up in 9 days , yes you can do it , i know others too . you can do it via sanctioining bodies or not , but its easier of you do , but make more money if you dont , but then you gotta have all bases covered financially , legally etc . need fighters too . also you do get peoples backs up who promote locally if you tread on their toes . i contacted other people 1st to be sure and they generally said "yeah thats fine " or " only do it after you register your fighters wiht me "
if you really wanna do it pm me and ill help you where i can , maybe even provide you some opponents for your fighters .

some of these shows are good, with entertaining fights, lots of local 'Bragging rights' type of fights gets punters in.
Local show by me in swanley this Sat night has about 14 fights, great Atmosphere, lights, action!!
Southside boxing promotions, they put on really good shows!!

so where in the country is swanley ? sorry to sound ignorant but to me its just as likely to be in london as it is in glasgow.

i actually just looked them up and found this line interesting

so id be interested to hear exactly how often shows are ?
also english boxing federation run down the south and are spreading all over the place so for anyone else down there to claim the top spot sounds odd to me.

yeah they have been putting on shows for a few years now, I dont promote anymore, I have filmed a few of their shows, pretty well organised, DRs and ambulance team, officials, title belts, I am not going as I have to head up north, but they are packed out, and have great posters send around locally....

Anybody know anyone ? Ex pro would be ideal They will get 50% of all ticket sales they make (Tickets are £20 each)

as far as tickets to attract fighters that will only work if the opponent is fairly local , might have to be a cash offer to attract someone more appropriate
