This antiquated rule where referees cannot explain their actions publicly hardly helps.

poor stoppage at the weekend.

not seen any of the rogan-sexton fight yet.

mostly everyone has been critical that sexton wasn't stopped though.

obviously khan-barrera should have been stopped earlier.

I don't think Sexton should've been stopped. Yes, he was on Enzo Macc legs, but Rogan didn't really land after he hurt Sexton. It only needed one clean shot, but Rogan couldn't manage it. I can't help but think that Rogan should've decked him when he looked down at his gumsheild.

No doubt that would've been a KO.

Regarding the article, McDermott comes across as a bit petty. The ref was biased against him because the boxer and ref were both from London? :witzend: "The ref was telling me off, not him..." etc, just sounds like he is petty.

Clearly McDermott throught he was doing OK in that fight- to me, watching on TV, barker did certainly look on top.

As discussed on other threads, the stoppage was premature- but then, that does sometimes happen.

Best plan for McDermott now is to regroup, and build up again and get back to winning ways. We only saw four rounds of that fight, but to be honest, he was outclassed.

I think the problem was the fact that Parris didn't do anything during those seconds of confusion. Sexton was staring at his gum shield, waiting for Parris to sort it out, Rogan was thinking Sexton was out of it and was waiting for Parris to wave off the fight. Parris should have made it clear what the situation was. I can't remember his actions at the time as I was flabbergasted.

McDermott: 'What was Dave Parris doing?'
Saving you from a coma!

As a fan yes I would have liked to see if go longer,
But as bad as Parris is a Ref and make no mistake I think he's a bad as can be.
But in this case you should be calling him to say thank you Mr.McDermott.
Barker was just warming up.

Now you can fight another day

I felt that Rogan thought Sexton's corner had stopped it, rather than the referee.

Ah, maybe. I guess I'll have to watch it back. I can't wait for the rematch. :TU:

Same as in football, why do people always blame the ref even when they have been clearly outclassed?

good point. in round 4, barker had him utterly outclassed. mcdermott is a hard luck case, but he was in for a right beating. barker's right hand was getting more accurate every round and it was a tough knockdown.

he's right to complain, but i feel he was saved from a beating. it was getting worse and worse for him and the gulf in class was becoming apparent. maybe the ref wanted that daft haircut out of his sight ASAP; that must be the reason, unless he was saving macca. short back and sides next time, things could be different
