sad, pathetic or just plain embarresing?

Post by adamheight »

the way choc tries to emulate RJJ?

i feel sorry for choc that he cant be his own person..not only does he try and copy his fighting style but also his mannersims, speech (which sounds silly when your natural accent is indig oz)..even the way he jumps on the turnbuckle and does his front double bicep.

sometimes i cringe out of embarressment...i mean, how can RJJ respect a man who seems obsessed with him?

Cmon man weather you hate or love Mundine you would have to be blind to miss how much he copies RJJs style. The head shake, the tongue, the double bicep pump, even the haircut.

and the nuthuggers never seem to see the facts. IN the eyes of most people he fucks up at every turn. But no, not the nuthuggers...they think he is an awesome bloke and his fornicate-ups are just minor things that we should overlook because of his greatness. You know mate, minor things....like saying the americans brought 911 on themselves....like direspecting the diggers on anzac day....like having his halfwit thugs standing over judges...like trying to emulate a fighter whose shadow he should not be allow to stand in.

But what do i know. He's awesome, just ask him. He's the new IBO world champ, none better..

Oh yeah...he's a pudendum.

its not often that i buy into the Anthony Mundine topic as i find it pointless to try and change peoples opinion of him, but i find it hard not to on this occasion.

patron, you say anthony is an insult to all of the great aboriginal boxers. how can you say this? anthony doesnt drink, smoke or gamble. he has made millions in and out of the ring and excelled in two of his chosen fields.
i presume some of the aboriginal boxers you speak of are 1. LIONEL ROSE who was convicted of burglary spent time in jail and had well publicised alcohol problems. 2. JERRY JEROME a great fighter who died broke 3. RON RICHARDS who had drinking problems and was a bad gambler 4. ELLEY BENNETT who had his own alcohol and gambling problems.
all of these mentioned were great aboriginal boxers that turned to alcohol and gambling, something you will never see anthony do.

i have been fortunate enough to have spent time with anthony and have seen some of the great work he does for his people in and around redfern. anthony is a role model to many young people in his community and always gives his time.

he may be a different person when the camera comes on but that is all showmanship and a means of promoting himself and the sport he loves. boxing in aus was on its knees before he came along. anthony has galvanised public opinion and brought boxing back to where it needs to be, in the public eye.

you say he is an illiterate grub yet i bet you have payed to watch him box on more than one occasion, be it to see him win or loose that money is going straight into his pocket, not bad for an illiterate grub.

yes he may copy RJJ in the way he fights and his manerisms, but who do you think started the copying, thats right.. the greatest of all time. have you never heard of gorgeous george the man ALI modelled his poetry and gamesmanship on. i dont for one minute suggest mundine is the same calibre as ALI but just because you style yourself on someone doesnt make you a bad person.

like him or hate him he is a natural talent and is good for our sport. i mean who would you all be talking about if not for him. would you have payed to see geale fight dawson. no.

so the interview where he aired his opinion that the americans brought 911 on themselves is showman ship is it? The lack of respect for the anzacs is showmanship? ffs mate....

Bragging your the best ever is a disgrace, Especially when this country has produced far better Aboriginal fighters than he will ever be.

again, this is why i try not to buy into this topic because people have their minds made up. as for the 911 comment many people have since come out and said the same thing it was just that anthony said it so early on in the piece when it was an extremely sensative issue.
i dont for one minute claim that anthony hasnt said some silly things but this is a boxing forum not a political forum. and he is not the first sportsman to have an opinion on politics land him in trouble. i remember someone once saying he didnt have a problem with the viet cong, that almost cost a brilliant career and probably robbed fans of his greatest performances.

I agree with you about him not drinking smoking etc. That is a good role model.

But saying you are the best ever etc is shitting on the people who come before you. His dad was a better fighter than him. Rose and Sands were better. And thats just a few of the great aboriginal fighters.

You can defend him until your blue in the face. Racism isnt an issue in his case its the bullshit he speaks that cause peole to hate him.
I think he is a talented fighter and great sportsamn but the shit he says are really disrespectful and show me that the guy is either a deadset moron or has no respect for anyone.

So many ppl would warm to mundine if he was him self and not try'n to be some one else... And he is a very good boxer... But I still don't think he won the other night.. Very close tho.. and hard to call. I must admit... Tho after finding out some of the CRAP that the mundine crew was up to on the night it make's me sick.. If you really are "THE MAN" you shouldn't need heavy's to push there weight around to get the result you want... If Mundine does fight any one else out side of Oz.. He's crew and him self will not get away with what they pulled the other night....

ben k, i agree with some of what you say, his dad was very good as were all the sands boys. lionel rose was a great fighter. i was simply trying to state that he has not gone down the same path as many of his peers. i also think that anthony in time will go down as one of the greatest boxers our country has produced.
i dont think anyone on this post has been racist towards anthony in anyway and i can see how some of the things he says can frustrate people.
im just saying that he is a great talent often misunderstood and as boxing fans we should get behind him. some things he has said are stupid no doubt but you can also not deny his talent

that is right mate. Kostya is generally revered by aussie fans, so picking the name of the one bloke who tko'ed him seems to me to be inflamatory.

It's like me signing on as Sven Ottke and only posting in the Aussie Forum. Mundines fans would not like it i'm sure. Especially if we had avatars and mine was this.

no need to apologise mate. gee he sure was asleep wasnt he.
just to get things straight im not one of these mundine "nut huggers" i think is the term you use.
i just happen to know the bloke and have seen a side to him most on here havent, in saying that i can be just as critical of him as the next if i think its deserved. i like to think i have an unbiassed educated opinion to offer noy just on choc but on the sport itself.
cheers mate
