Another One Bites The Dust!
Another One Bites The Dust!
Heavyweight pretender Juan Carlos Gomez followed up his win over Samil Sam with a devastating KO loss to fellow Cuban Yamplier Azcuy (see link)! Gomez's career seems over before it even began
Another one bites the dust in a search for the next Heavyweight star.

That's a shocker. To be honest I thought Gomez was going places, looking the best of the heavyweights they showcased on HBO.
Must've been caught cold, and I read that he didn't look to badly hurt when it was stopped - maybe he can still come back. Hopefully we'll see it on channel 5?
Did Sky show highlights of the Corrales fight yet? You can see the knockdowns over at maxboxing...

The report must have been wrong i'm afraid MW because Gomez was out of it! He takes lots of unanswered punches, he was blubbery and out of shape. Check this link of the knockout!

From what I hear from people close to Gomez' camp, he has been out larging it up for the last 8 months, hardly bothering to train, and getting smashed.
He thought he was a superstar before he actually made much noise in the heavyweight division, it appears unlikely he has the dedication to be a champion.

15lbs heavier than the Samil Sam fight.
Gomez has always had a reputation as a party boy.... one of the main problems with communist fighters when they finally get a taste of freedom. It takes a lot of discipline to come from a communist regime to a capitalist regime and still have the same dedication and avoid lifes vices

Maybe the first right hand to the *head*, but Azcuy had previously lnaded several hard, unanswered right-hand leads to Gomez' undefended gut. That's when I started to get a feeling this one be might be more interesting than most folks (including me) initially thought...latuch wrote:Gomez seems to be hurt with the first right hand in the middle of the ring and then again with the right hand as he tuches the ropes for the first time. He was out and it was not a prematue stoppage imo.
