Sorry Charlie!
Sorry Charlie!
I just tried to access some info on "Sonny" Liston in the records section and typed in Charles Liston. It was interesting to me that no records exist for him. Typing in "Sonny Liston" works thankfully but I thought it odd that
a good source like this one would not recognise his real name.

An interesting point , however it does give his birth name.

The thing is, though, that not all hardcore Boxing fans visit the site, and given that more people know "Sonny" Liston than Charles Liston or Charles "Sonny" Liston, it makes more logical sense to put him as "Sonny" Liston. Just like they don't list "Jersey" Joe Walcott as Arnold Raymond Cream, the site lists Liston by his Boxing name, which is correct.Boxerdog wrote:In boxing circles, the more than casual fan knows what the man's name was. Admit it, somebody screwed the pooch here. Not a hanging offence but not consistent with the majority of listings.

Just a matter of inconsistancies that editor-boy should admit to.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been reading posts on this forum for a few days and like what I see. A lot of knowledgeble posters, a bare minimum of B.S. and for the most part, a respectful attitude towards others.
I look forward to learning from all of you and if I can contribute something to your understanding of the sport or the fighters that inspire us, that is great.
I am a long time fan. I remember watching the old Gillette fights on
black and white T.V. I remember both Patterson/ Johannson fights and like a lot of people I was completely hooked after seeing a young, brash kid from Louisville dethrone the scariest looking character I had ever laid eyes on....Sonny Liston.
My favorite fighters include S.R.R. and S.R.L. and the other members of the Fab Four, Henry Armstrong, Bobby Chacon, the young Tyson, Marciano, J. Johnson, Graziano, probably 20 others that you will get tired of hearing about from me and of course the man......Ali.
I am very glad to be here to enjoy your insight. Peace.

At the risk of feeding this "mountain out of a molehill" frenzy, I would just point out the possibility of my reading comments of different posters in Nov. of '02. ......posibly even the comments of posters who would not jump down your throat for drawing attention to a couple of perfectly reasonable points.
(and Ned Flanders is the nerdy, goody two shoes neighbor on "The Simpsons" btw.)
