How can he get a fight like that?
If the IBF had any credibility they would step in and not let it be a title fight. If Adamek doesn't KO him in 1 round I'll be mightily surprised.

Well to be fair to Bobby Gunn I genuinely believe the guy can punch pretty hard, and maybe even at a World Class level at Cruiserweight. The problem for Bobby is it'll be a miracle if he can even land on Adamek, even more of a miracle if he manages not to take a sustained amount of punches from the firs bell, and an even greater miracle again if he can take those punches.

Bobby Gunn-

pros: good power

cons: he's a club fighter
He has an awful chin
He can't defend himself at all
He's technically awful, not able to set his punches up very well he just loads up on big shots when he gets close
His footwork is awful.
Generally different flaws that are linked to the point of him being a club fighter, but he's not even one of those good club fighters. That type of club fighter who comes in against a World Class opponent and while clearly bested they give the World Class fighter a problem for a few rounds.
He should also only be a Light-Heavyweight.

Nope Bobby's gonna go in there, swing away and get stopped in the first round again.
I feel sorry for Bobby Gunn in a way, a fighter of his level should be fighting Ian Tims or Darren Corbett(now retired again) for the Irish Cruiserweight title. But instead he's being thrown in at World Class level to be blown away. Okay he's probably making good money for a fighter of his talent, but he's going to take a beating here(for as long as it lasts) and be humiliated badly for the 2nd time in his career.

Let me put this into perspective, Bobby Gunn drew with Coy Phelps over 6 rounds.
Cory Phelps has been stopped in 1 round by Alexander Frenkel(German Cruiserweight), 2 rounds by Tommy Karpency(Light-heavyweight), 1 round by Donovan George (Super-Middleweight), and 2 rounds by Bobby Jordan(Super-Middleweight).

However, and here's the real indicator of Phelps talent, Joe Rea(an Irish Middleweight) stopped Phelps in just two rounds. Rea then went on to lose all 3 rounds to British Middleweight prospect Martin Murray in prizefighter. So a Quarter-Finalist(1st round) of prizefighter at Middleweight stops a guy in 2 rounds, and the guy that was stopped has a draw with the man who is about to take on the Cruiserweight champion of the World. This fight is ridiculous, and the Adamek fans trying to justify it are pathetic. I don't mind Adamek getting an easy fight but Maccarinelli coming off a loss is fighting a far better opponent in Lebedev.

Adamek could at least fight someone the level of Rob Norton, Ovill McKenzie would be a better choice.

it's because hopkins wanted about 4 mil to challenge adamek who'd get a mere $500,000, wouldn't consider a sensible purse split for hopkins' "historical challenge" and because TV turned down adamek-godfrey

adamek v bobby gunn. adamek v enzo macca's WBO letovers!

very sad to see value for money fighters like adamek getting snubbed by TV, especialy showtime who have no problem putting on light hitting dull yanks in main events (like andre ward and tim bradley).

hopefully adamek's ppl will come up with something better next time, maybe consider taking things to poland for a massive fight with wlodarczyk, who is coming off a thrilling, controversial 12 round draw with WBC champ fragomeni. it's all very well saying "we'll go ahead without premiu cable channels" but then to bring in Gunn - it clearly wasn't worth goig ahead.

Who would try to justify this fight?

Adamek fans want to see Adamek going to war.

re 1st rd KO - would the odds actually be any good? would there be any point betting? would you not get better odds of adamek PTS?

Of course you would but then Adamek PTS is never going to happen.

I think Adamek will want a few rds, and also let's not forget this is a main event, so he may have to carry Gunn for a few rounds.

I'm not so sure that's possible though Auto, Enzo didn't seem to be looking for a quick stoppage but then he landed a jab which seemed to explode on poor Bobby's face. Maybe it'll last beyond the first but 1-3 has to be a sure thing??

hopkins should have wanted to create a peice of history by fighting adamek rather than increase his already high bank balance

Hopkins is the marquee fighter. I've heard that the problem was actually Adamek's management asking for too much moolah for a fight he'd probably win because they felt Tomasz would be responsible for much of the gate.

Now he has a Welterweight to fight that lost to a hill billy.

Well over on Eastside I've seen plenty of Adamek fans trying to justify this because he 'deserves an easy fight', and that people should(and I'm paraphrasing here) 'stop whinging about this fight'. A lot of these seem to be Poles who seem almost happy with the fight, as they know it's one where their fighter will emerge with an early knockout victory.

Also for those criticising the WBO for having Bobby Gunn ranked when he fought Enzo, at least they only had him ranked 15th, the WBC had him ranked 14th. Also the WBC have him ranked right now at #15, even after that one round demolition and him beating no one decent since.

if you fight a big name, you have to expect some good money, especially if you're the champ and the draw at the location the fight's going to be at. hopkins has priced himself out of a cruiserweight world title fight before - james toney, in 2003/4 - and the date was given to mayflower, anyway.

adamek's ppl couldn't have known that the johnson and godfrey fights were going to be turned down by hbo and showtime. if cunningham wins the elim v braithwaite, hopefully showtime pick that fight up.

but the gunn fight is inexcusable. it's piss poor. and it takes the fans for granted.

I don't understand why boxers always assess their paydays one at a time. Had Adamek beaten Hopkins on the cheap, it would automatically make him aware to the US arm chair fan, thus the next fight could generate a million for him had it been an impressive performance.

Now he's gonna get $50 for this. Shakes head.

ADAMEK was becoming one of my Fave Boxer's and i wouldn't have minded him fighting an easier fight after 2 hard fights against Cunningham and Banks back to back but Bobby Gunn is a Club Fighter at best and probably hasn't beaten a Cruiserweight inside the Top 100 let alone Top 10 so this is truly a shameful fight for him!

Hopkins is notoriously hard to deal with and Adamek's ppl would have gone with a purse split in Hopkins' favour.

Fighting Hopkins - a defensive master - often spoils a fighter's marketability.

Anyway, HBO were always going to give the date to Mayweather-Marquez, and HBO aren't willing to do the fight until next year.

But definitely, a shameful fight and look how the mighty have fallen, etc.
