Commonwealth is no better than WBU nowadays.

Yes, there are some good Commonwealth champions but the "quality" of opposition often served up is making it another joke title.

in the majority of the press releases up here in scotland, limind has confirmed that the WBU is a poorly regarded belt and he is only trying to get back in the title mix. my only problem is, if he fought barrett in say an 8 rounder and won, wouldnt it have the same affect on his ranking than the result last night (fighting for WBU)? if lee mcallister is gettign a shot at the vacant commonwealth strap, what was stopping limond getting a shot at it? limond vs mcallister would sell a few tickets up here!

I'll never forget when Patrick Mullings won the IBO title and in his post fight interview, I think it was Adam Smith, basically slated that belt "you're not really a world champion, aren't you".... sad thing is, a couple of years (maybe even less) down the line a UK leg of a PPV had Billy Schwer out to finally achieve his world title dream and that was for the IBO title.

Good to see people are as disgusted as me. Some of you might know i post on another forum, everyone was slagging of the WBU every chance they got but as soon as Limmond became a member of our site they all started kissing his arse.

Its things like the WBU that are killing boxing, it means about as much as a swimming badge

A swimming badge is worth more, Rob! Presumably you had to swim 50m to get your 50m badge. So it accurately represents an achievement.

All of this 'it helps him earn a few quid' is fine and good on him. But it does harm to the sport in general and that's that.

who cares, hatton did this 15 times, used up his prime knowing he could fight mickey mouse mismatches and the MEN would be packed, and got iced when he stepped into true top level.

that's infinitely more insidious and cynical, if you ask me; and while it paid off in money, I would argue we also saw the other consequence to the mismatches, in the mayweather and pac fights (though there are other factors).

when schwer, dunne, ayers & rigby all squared off fot various fringe belts, they were actually in great, great fights and made extra money for it which they deserved.

limond is doing this well off the beaten track, only a few hundred who went to the fight actually saw it. willie's on his own as fighter/promoter. seems pretty harmless, really.

The fact that Hatton won the WBU and defended so many times against sub standard opposition seems to justify it in a few boxer's eyes.

In Japan - all so called world titles are banned except for the WBC and the WBA - the BBB of C could do the same but
a cut in their profit margin means it won't happen.

Its a business chaps - and the day we get is a say is the day we stop attending shows featuring alphabet soup titles. :TU:

Exactly, the board could ban all "fake" world titles but it all comes down to those lovely sterling notes at the end of the day.

Plus, what distinguishes a title as genuine or not? You could argue that the WBC and WBA are just as corrupt or lacking in integrity as any other two-bit organisation, so where does one draw the line when sanctioning titles on home soil?

Oh I totally agree - this is why MMA is gaining popularity over boxing because the best fighters are fighting each other - thats all the people want - the best to
fight the best - no-one cares about titles or why Lewis can't fight Bowe or why someone gets stripped because he won't fight so and so...

I was using Japan as an example of a boxing board who have decided to use some quality control - its not perfect as the WBA/WBC are as bad as the rest
but it is a better siutation than the one we have got - the reason commonwealth title fights have took a downward turn in quality is because of these
crappy bogus titles in my opinion..
