Gerardo Ibarra IS an american citizen.
He fought internationally in the cadet worlds as he was the national JO champion at 138 in 06
why boxrec listed him in mexico I don't know
but he lives and trains out of Houston TX.

However, they have to be released from USA Boxing and accepted by the country they are representing. If they want to box for the U.S. again, they have to be released from the country they are currently representing and reaccepted by the U.S. Azea Agustama and his two brothers are another example. They compete for Haiti every Olympic year.

For a long time they also listed Juan Diaz as Mexican. It has to do with Boxrec.com policy, nothing else..

TinTin won the Mexican national title, which may have something to do with his listing. I believe he was runner-up in the Olympic year.

thanks mel...i think 2008 was their only olympics & all pro now!! since there is no pro boxing in haiti & they are all US citizens, i'll correct them too, much like berto & vanes martirosyan were corrected...

Azea Agustama competed for the Haitian team in 2004 and lost in the Tijuana qualifier. He tried to make the Olympics again in Brazil, but lost to Trevor Stewardson from Canada. Berto was never a citizen of Haiti as he was born in the U.S. His dad petitioned for Haitian citizenship for Berto after he lost in the U.S. Olympic Trials. Vanes was born in Armenia but received U.S. citizenship as a child.
