Prodigy mentioned in boxing weekly

Post by glahn »

No, not the shitty techno band. In the article on Mayweather in London they mention something about a 14 year old at the gym who they describe as a prodigy. Can't remember the kid's name. Anyone know anything about him?

It's this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ezPaFqa0hI

There's couple of his fights on youtube as well but it seems that people are mainly getting excited by his Mayweatheresque padwork which I have to say does nothing for me. It's great to demonstrate handspeed and it looks flashy but I don't see the point in it otherwise. In fact the trainer seems to do more work than the boxer in that kind of padwork.

Looks ok in his fights but a little early to call him the second coming and IMO it puts unnecessary pressure on him with all the hype. The last "prodigy" I can remember getting that hype was Daniel Teasdale a kid who was gonig to be the next big thing from the Ingle gym when Hamed was around. Here's his pro record: http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer

There's also Octavio Lara (http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer) another prodigy that Emanuel Steward was going to take all the way.

When the guy started doing the mayweather-esque pad technique :witzend: .. I kinda lost interest :(

Whats with tapping the kids gloves with the pads? .. shouldn`t the kid be finding the pads himself? no critism to the youngster .. just think the guy on the pads has been watching too much Mayweather :shame:

Yeah, that's him. Anyone know his extraction (aside from being British, obviously)? It's an interesting name, that.

Good to see some promising kids coming through. Just a shame that the people they have to look up to and copy are generally nuggets.

I remember reading about Teasdale on an article about Khalid Shafiq (remember him?), he was mentioned by Ingle as one to watch.

Didn't his first fight get called off or something due to crowd riot?
