I have to say that I am really enjoying what I have seen so far. I agree that Tajbert looked very, very good. I just can't see ankle-sized Franco beating him now. I was also quite impressed with Jo Seok Kwan (I think that was his name).

I'm on the Tajbert bandwagon as well ... I think Universum needs to sign this guy up regardless if he wins a medal.

The one caveat perhaps is that Brizuela was not a very highly rated opponent. He only qualified because Aaron Garcia couldn't win at the US trials. Still, I thought Brizuela looked useful enough and skills are skills, and Tajbert had them on display.

The fight with Djelkhir should give us a better idea of just how good he is though. I'm hoping they show that one here.

I thought the Ugandans looked good yesterday. Mayanja had a tough draw but fought pretty well and Rukundo was impressive. Maybe some guys to look for in the future as pros.

Tomorrow features the super heavyweight, heavyweight, and junior flyweight divisions. The United States have boxers in all three divisions. Estrada has an easy test in the first round against Tonga's Ma’afu Hawke. Devin Vargas, who got an easy draw, will face Morocco's Rachid El Haddak. Vargas is expected to advance easily as well. Lastly light flyweight Raushee Warren will have a difficult challenge in trying to get past China's Shiming Zou. Warren is not expected to get past round one.

In the 48kg division Warren from the US just lost 22-9 vs Zou from China, close fight in the first 3 round but Zou outboxed Warren in the 4th round.

Boo to Teddy and Asshat for wrecking a good fight between Abner Mares and Zsolt Bedak yesterday. Yes, the scoring system is not perfect, but it was a close, competitive fight, and they acted like Zsolt was some patsy getting over. They didn't even seem to be watching him at all. Mares has good potential as a pro, if he turns now.

Also, where did they find the carcass of Fred Rogan? That guy seemed finished about 10 years ago, yet he's back and still hoping against hope that his bloopers shtick will carry him. Fun fact - Rogan was actually cloned from one of Marv Albert's pubic hairs.

I entirely agree. I thought Bedak won. The little I know about amateur boxing, I do know that the white portion of the glove is what counts. Mares was throwing many punches but most were clubbing shots that did not hit with the white portion. If it was a pro match (like Teddy calls) Mares would have deserved it, but Bedak fought the better amateur fight. That is the reason some amateurs have trouble in the pros. Clean punching really doesn't count that much compared to volume punching.

Camerelle looked very bad today, he got two counts in round 4 and I dont think he will do well in the tournament.
It was a little surprise that Jaksto beat Bisbal, and I am personally very surprised to see that Ali from Egypt won his fight, he must have improved since he fourght in Denmark.

Nunez Lopez looked really horrible against Saidov, it is probably the worst fight of the tournament so far.

Tomorrow will feature three Americans, as the Light heavyweight, Welterweight, and Light weltweight divisions will all be in action.

- Light heavyweight Andre Ward has the easiest test against Italy's Clemente Russo. However, if he wins, he may have to face medal favorite Evgeny Makarenko (as long as Makarenko gets by the Cuban).

- Welterweight Vanes Martirosyan will have a huge mountain to climb when he faces Cuba's Lorenzo Aragon. Even though Teddy Atlas and Asshat are picking Martirosyan to win, I think he's the clear underdog.

- Finally, Light welterweight Rock Allen makes his tournament debut when he fights Bulgaria's Boris Georgiev. Georgiev is pretty good ... I could see this fight going both ways.

I'm particularly looking forward to Rock Allen against Boris Georgiev at 64kg's which is about to start. The winner looks certain to face Karimzhanov and the winner of that will probably face Cuba's Yudel Jhonson for a place in the final.

I saw him in the Euroes earlier this year but he was nothing special, as I recall it he lost big in either 1/8 or 1/4 final. I havent seen his fight vs Allen, but I was very impressed by his first fight in the olympics.

Georgiev got beaten pretty handily by Paschuk in the quarterfinals. But then Pashchuk beat Blain and lost in the final to Maletin by walkover, so that may not have been a bad loss at all. Shame Pashchuk couldn't fight.

Man, 30-10. 17-3 after two rounds, the battle was o-vah.
