Lol i like it...these sort of shenanigans have already happened earlier in the tournament, at Welterweight Baktiyar Artayev got into the ring and waited, then amidst much confusion and plenty of camera shots of the empty corner of the ring he had to take off his headguard and gloves and had his hand hoisted as the winner. His opponent from Cameroon Willie Tanko had decided not to appear!MightyWarrior wrote:Failing to make weight at the Olympics shows a lack of amateurism.
Was it possibly th heavy final then? It was a korean fighter who had the beard... maybe it wasnt olympics.Wales wrote:
WAS IT SEOUL '88 IN THE SUPERHEAVY FINAL WHEN THE KOREAN GUY WON WITHOUT THROWING A PUNCH DUE TO THE OTHER GUYS CORNER PULLING HIM OUT AFTER 10 SECONDS BECAUSE THE KOREAN HAD A BEARD.
The final in Seoul was Lewis vs Bowe and they did fight.
It was shown on question of sport a few days ago - definately the 1988 Olympics. However, it didn't say at what stage or weight the contest was in.
Can't remember if it was the Korean guy or his opponent who had the beard (well, I thought it was the opponent untill you said it was the Korean).
Also, not sure who was actually awarded the victory, didn't say on the show.
