I apologize for any inconvenience I might have cause
No sweat Frank, there'll be another time. Maybe we'll charter a boat and do some deep sea fishing. It just so happens that I'll have to be at work this weekend.

Me in in posh Lytham St Annes near Blackpool. There is a statue of the late, great comedian Les Dawson nearby but I swear it looks more like Chad Dawson.

Below: Bev and I on the coach on the way back. I look like I could do with a blood pressure test but, in my defence, we fair-skinned Irishmen do turn red after a week on the beer.
Bennie, all the photos that you posted are outstanding. You and Bev look great. It's nice to finally put a face with the writings.

I know that along with Sixto, Art Aragon was in it as well as Curtis Cokes. They did an outstanding job.
Brian, Art Aragon was no stranger to the screen, both during and after his career.
When I first started out at Universal in the mid-70's, I'd work on a TV series, "Baretta".
Aragon had a reoccuring role as an expug who worked at a corner newstand.

Over the years, whenever there was a boxing production, Art was usually involved, either as an actor or a technical advisor.

The true Hallmark of this thread is the fact that several of us here are aware of a boxing movie that was produced in 1952, the year I was born.
The movie is titled, "The Ring", and we have already discussed it here more than once.
It was one of the first acting jobs for Rita Moreno. Lots of L.A. boxer's and landmarks. Teamster's Gym, Hollywood Legion, Art Aragon, Keeny Teran.
I first saw it as a kid in the sixties. Hap Navarro remembers when it was filmed and so does Frank, as it was filmed in his gym.
Randy has seen it and I've got to get a copy. Aragon is a young fighter, very hot at the time.

The Ring is classic L.A.Noir. It's somewhat of a low budget movie but I consider it a minor classic. It's a boxing movie with cultural significance.

Rick....It was either 1964 or 1965 that we had the finals of the Jr.GG at the Valley Gardens.

The year that Jerry Quarry won the nationals, the local finals were held at the Olympic, was it 1965 or 1966?.

This is Jeri's mother, my late mother in law Josie. It has to be the late 30's or early 40's. The baby is Jeri's oldest sister Mary. All the photos were taken in San Antonio, Texas. I think Jeri resembles her mother.

Randy

I agree, Randy. There is a shot of the boxer, Tommy Kansas, doing roadwork with his friends following in a car. That shot was done in the hills above L.A. showing the L.A. skyline. Back then, the 26 story L.A. City Hall was the highest skyscraper in town. It remained the tallest L.A. building until the mid-60's, when the Transamerica Bldg. went higher. There is an actor whose last name is Martinez who played one of the boxer's friends. He also played "Pepino" in the old "The Real McCoy's" TV series. The fact that the most awarded actor in film history, Rita Moreno, got her start in this one is reason enough to tab it a classic.

I just showed Monica the photo and she thought the same, "natural beauty".

1965! Thanks, Frank. That was the night that Jerry had to climb off the canvas twice, to win a decision over Clay Hodges.
The following week, Jerry KOed five straight in Kansas City to win the Nationals. Hodges would finally win it himself in 1967.

Here is some footage of Mighty Mo and Floyd Mayweather at the news conference on May 18th.

Floyd calls Mighty Mo, "the future of boxing...." at about 3:20 into the video.

Dont get too excited, Mo hasn't fought since December and does not seem interested in starting up again.

I had hope seeing Mayweather would encourage him back to the gym and in fact it did, but that last four days and

now he changed his mind again. Frank, since your boys started so young like Mo, did they every get tired of it or bored?

This is all new to me and I cant understand why a kid on top of his game and with business people willing to pay for his

traveling, would rather not compete. Help??

You know that scene in "Fat City" when Sixto Rodriguez gets off the bus with just his duffel bag in his hand arriving in Stockton to fight Billy Tully? Hes all by himself. The journeyman, seen it all. A real pro.
Maybe your impression?

Thanks pal,
Brian

Yes, Rudy, Frankie and Bobby got bore/tired of boxing and took some time off, Frankie took 3 years off, Bobby longer, Tony never got bore/tired and would not take time off, ever though I asked him too, don't push him, he'll come back when he is good and ready, I seen too many kids get push and before you know it, they are burned, it happened to the best Jr. fighter I ever seen, Larry Flores.
