Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
Its amazing in Boxing how amny people Change there mind
He possibly doesnt think he needs to change that much and maybe thinks he has the Tools still to beat some top guys
outwith Pacquio and Mayweather
He would be a lot better for Hatton than that Clown Floyd
at least Roach would turn up on time a keep hattons feet on the ground

£1m in a brown envelope should sweeten the deal.Wales wrote:Would roach want to take him after commenting that "ricky hatton cant change" ??
Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
This is the man who he should have gone to after splitting with Graham.
Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
Reading the title, I thought Roach might be making a comeback!
I really hope Roach doesn't train Hatton. Come on Ricky, retire!

Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
I don't know about that. Roach is a celebrity trainer nowadays (i'm not saying he isn't good). There are 3 or 4 trainers that everyone seems to go to when they want to work with someone new and guy's like Roach and Manny Steward simply have to many fighters in their stable to be able to devote the proper amount of time to.banjo wrote:This is the man who he should have gone to after splitting with Graham.
I'm assuming Hatton realises he needs to change a few things if he's going to carry on, he can't do that with a six week training camp. It remains to be seen whether he can even do it with someone who spends months with him.

kind of agree, but aklso think Roach thrieves on his reputation as a trainer, would he want to fail?Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:£1m in a brown envelope should sweeten the deal.Wales wrote:Would roach want to take him after commenting that "ricky hatton cant change" ??

Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
I don't think it matters much who trains hatton at this stage of his career. He only knows one way to fight when he is under serious pressure, and that is go barrelling in with his face first. The two times he stepped up to the highest level he has done precisely the same thing, and when hurt by Collazo did pretty much the same.
Hatton is in decline now, he's not as quick as he once was, and his punch resistance most certainly isn't what it was up until the Tszyu fight. He's been hurt in many fighters since then, and he was totaly ripped apart as soon as Pacquaio landed, which considering that Pacquaio couldn't put a dent in Oscar, never stopped Marquez, and took many rounds to break Diaz down, suggests that Hatton no longer carries a shot too well and doesn't seem to recover from being hurt well any more either.
I hope Hatton retires soon, or steps down a level, because if he chooses to mix it with Mayweather again he's going to get his ass whooped.

Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
Agreed, I think the signs where there when he fought Juan Lazcano, great nickname he has by the way
Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
No point Hatton continuing to fight, from a boxing perspective. He's achieved everything he can, the only reason to fight on is for more cash. Roach can't add anything to Hattons game that will allow him to move up to the next level. Before Hatton fought Pacquiao we heard all about his improved defense then he stepped in the ring and got clocked by the first right hook Pacquiao threw, then the second, then the third... The same shot he's been hit with by Southpaws his whole career, he can't even see the shots, let alone react to them. Unfortunatley, Hatton has taken his career as far as he can and Roach wont change that.
It's not even like you need to mention the fact that he's suffered another nasty KO and looks like his punch resistance is well past its sell by date. The next guy Hatton faces who plants his feet to punch will KO Hatton, again.

Well, the next good level operator perhaps. There are still plenty of guys Hatton can beat, just not talented top level fighters. I can see a young contender giving him a bit of a spanking if he carries on much longer.CheckHook wrote:No point Hatton continuing to fight, from a boxing perspective. I think the difference earlier in his career, was that his speed of movement and his punch resistance allowed him to get away with his porous defence, but now, he just cannot close the gap fast enough any more.
Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
Agreed. I still think there's loads of guys Hatton could beat, but none that really move his career to the next level. I'm not trying to be dismissive of Hatton, he still has the skills to hurt anyone he fights, he just doesn't have the defensive ability to make up for his lack of punch resistance. The right style fighter Hatton will still beat and beat well, but anyone with ambition who plants there feet and punches as Hatton walks in has a very good chance of KOing him and to be honest, they don't have to be at the top of the tree to hurt Hatton.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, the next good level operator perhaps. Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
I suppose one of the biggest reasons I don't want to see Roach and Hatton pair up is because the Khan fight is begging to happen, even if Khan loses to Kotelnik.

I'd back Bradley and Kotelnik to beat Hatton now.

Bradley would outwork Hatton and probably stop him late on. Junior Witter? lolDavidPayne wrote:I'd back Bradley and Kotelnik to beat Hatton now.

Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
From a genuine motivational point of view, can anyone OTHER than Junior Witter really stir the blood of Hatton?
For all the money bigger fights would make, how up for them is Hatton really likely to be?
Its the ONLY fight I think, he doesn't have a strategy for earning rematches, he was too clearly outclassed, so his best horizon is 140 title belts. Elite, that new word, fights with the JMM, May, Pac, Cotto etc are pipe dreams.
Hatton needs a check out fight and only Witter can surely get him focussed. Not even Khan would raise the blood like Witter.

Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
It would be good for him to spar PacMan everyday.
If Manny kept spanking him in the gym then perhaps (and I mean perhaps) he might finally learn to move his head?
Otherwise retire ASAP.

Khan vs Ricky is huge fight potentially and one that simply has to be made.DavidPayne wrote:From a genuine motivational point of view, can anyone OTHER than Junior Witter really stir the blood of Hatton?

If Ricky wins that, then who knows - could be a door opening back to the big leagues. Floyd/Pac/JMM/Mosley/Cotto cannot all be unavailable cause they have bigger fish to fry

But can Hatton motivate himself without some needle now? Witter is the only fighter who could deliver that needle.

Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
Hatton should retire now i dont think Roach could make him into a world beater or even better than he is now he's made a lot of money and should just hang up the gloves
Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
Is Hatton going to be trained by a Roach-Beard partnership?
Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
I don't think there is evidence of a lack of motivation. He got cleaned KO'd.DavidPayne wrote:But can Hatton motivate himself without some needle now? Witter is the only fighter who could deliver that needle.
Lets not forget that just the fight previous he put on what a few people consider a career best performance.
Re: Hatton to fight with Roach
I think he should pack it in before he gets a spanking off a young up-and-comer. He's proven he's a step or two better than most top-10 guys out there, and several steps below the very best. Absolutely no shame in that at all, and it's not like he needs the money.
We shall see though.

He's the best around imo. But will he stand for Team Hatton being around?!Wales wrote:kind of agree, but aklso think Roach thrieves on his reputation as a trainer, would he want to fail?Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:£1m in a brown envelope should sweeten the deal.Wales wrote:Would roach want to take him after commenting that "ricky hatton cant change" ??
