Setanta in trouble ?
The Scottish Premier League will take Setanta to court if the broadcaster fails to pay the final £3m instalment of last season's television money on Friday. (The Herald)

Re: Setanta in trouble ?
You can't blame Haye for not fighting if even his short end of the purse was not going to be paid

So if he's campaigning, futile though we all know it is, for a July date how is he expecting the situation to change.
Further proves, he knows the goose is cooked in my opinion.

Re: Setanta in trouble ?
Setanta is done, gone before the new football season, i would reckon.
Horrible business plan, make people pay 10 quid a month for what they previously got included with SKY sports?
yeah, that's a sure fire bet, that is

Agreed K-G.
Major implications for Blue Square Premier and SPL as renegotiated fire fighting contracts will not be as lucrative.

Rumours are absolutely rife at the moment about a number of things going on in boxing!!!!
Had an interesting conversation today - which is a certain TV Company has to find the funding within the next 14 days otherwise it could be curtains!!
Furthermore I also got told a certain boxing promoter who is not a sky promoter went to sky to try his best to entice Sky that a certain fight was worthy of investment.

So Setanta need money big time in 14 days and Adam Booth was trying to get Sky to buy Haye vs Klitschko, but because they wouldn't, Haye pulled out.Spud wrote:Rumours are absolutely rife at the moment about a number of things going on in boxing!!!!

I'm just jumping to conclusions, because that's all I can do based on your post. Your statements are way too ambiguous.

Setanta in trouble is in the public domain. I imagine Sky would show Haye on box office.

What I am stating directly concerning Setanta is that it would be a terrible shame if they were the TV company in the sh*t and they had to find funding quickly - lets make no mistake here - they have been truly fantastic for British Boxing and they have been fantastic in bringing the sport to us the fans!! - I hope they continue.
Re: Setanta in trouble ?
OK, Spud, I understand you.
Re: Setanta in trouble ?
I made a comment on setanta's feedback column, whereby Buncey was arguing that it was wrong to slate Haye for pulling out as he is injured.
I commented that he/they were mistaken - that the real gossip on the boards is that the channel is set to go BANG and that's what people perceive to be why Haye has pulled out.
Obviously their mod never accepted the comment.
Personally i really hope they pull through.
If you want my opinion, It's the old football curse. The sport of w*nkers sucks up every single TV station's budget to prop up the clubs ridiculous wages for their 'stars' who do nothing but drive ferraris, whilst their wag's have their teeth bleached and their fake tans applied.
Footy = cancer of the UK sporting world.

Re: Setanta in trouble ?
Awful news for boxing. I'm just glad that there are decent (paid) streams available for all of the fights Setanta cover and more.
Re: Setanta in trouble ?
I'm not sure what you mean here, KG. Then again, I know nowt about business. I thought a tenner a month for stuff you couldn't get on Sky Sports wasn't bad. There was usually at least a couple of football games worth watching and it totally outdid Sky for boxing.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:Setanta is done, gone before the new football season, i would reckon.

Re: Setanta in trouble ?
It came free on Virgin good value imo.
Re: Setanta in trouble ?
Any chance Setanta could go PPV again?

Outside of boxing and UFC they're not great, and even the former wasn't on enough but I've stuck with them. Blue Square anyone?! Premiership Autoracing (which has to be the worst idea ever)!? Aussie rules football? No?!
And what the jeebus happened to kickboxing. 2 shows and then nowt.
I'll have to grab UFC off the Internet, but outside of the Boxing Hour I hardly watch the channel.

The problem is UFC and Boxing are largely niche markets and the average fan can still get large amounts of boxing on ITV and Sky Sports.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Always felt it was like a massive buffet; little bits of everything.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:I'm not sure what you mean here, KG. Most of their coverage pales in comparison to Sky, Champions League on Sky compared to Setanta's FA Cup, La Liga football on Sky compared to French on Setanta, 3 Premier League matches a weekend compared to Setanta's 1. Sky have the Championship whereas Setanta have the Blue Sq.
Honestly how many people are going to pay to watch Cambridge United Histon on a Monday night outside their fans who are likely at the game.
Sky also have the Tennis, Golf, Cricket which get big audiences and followings and to a lesser extent complete coverage of Darts, NFL.
Setanta's biggest selling point is, once every couple of months, England qualifier, FA Cup game or two and the Sat evening/Mon evening Premiership games and it's just not enough for an extra 10 pounds and the coverage simply not good enough to break Sky's monopoly.
