I need help from a Boxing Historian

Post by Lurch52 »

I work with this guy, who claims he was a boxer. He's 34 years old, and boxed under a different name so he could start boxing when he was approx. 16 years old.

He claims he used to spare alot with James Toney.

He claims he has a half brother (with the same last name) that was the last boxer put in jail WHILE he was a champion. (Serving approx. 15 years from something)

He is WHITE, and claims most of his fights were outside the United States.

He was in the same division Del La Hoya, Trinidad, and Vargas was in.

He claims at one point in his career he was called the HENDERSON HAMMER (Henderson, Nevada)

He wants me to figure it out instead of telling me apparently, and I'm insanely curious. So I hope you guys can help me. Finding boxing information on the net is extremely difficult.

ANY information or leads would be so helpful. Thanks very much for your time. PLEASE Email me at [email protected] or you can leave a message here.

Sounds like the brother who went to jail could be Davey Hilton. Let me know if that's right.

The facts don't match. Try Will (Hammer) Hilton as a maybe.

I asked him about the name Hilton. Apparently, he KNOWS Davey "quite well" but this is not him.

Keep in mind, that the facts in my orignal post might be exaggerated due to ego reasons.

Thanks for your awesome leads, I appriciate it!!!!

REQUEST

Post by Lurch52 »

Okay, one problem. Matthew Hilton is a DEAD ringer for my friend. But I cannot find a picture of him on the internet anywhere. I really believe this is him, but I cannot prove it. He won't tell me if it is him or not.

The guy knew Matthew's exact record, plus recited many of his decsions getting the means and the rounds right. He also knew Dave Sr.'s record exactly. So there might be a good chance of this being him.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE....try and find me a picture of MATTHEW HILTON
so, I can end this madness!!!

I appriciate all your help everyone, this has been a most frustrating adventure.

Hey everyone, sorry for bumping an old thread. I was never able to find out who he actually was. We started talking about boxing again today, and it repeaked my interest. I have a few little tidbits from him.

The guy was in Anthony Bryant's corner during the 7-26-1990 fight against Kenny Gould. In which Gould dislocated his shoulder. The ref stepped in between the fighters and this guy cut the gloves off Bryant so force the fight to be stopped due to the ref stepping in when Gould was hurt.

Owen or Owens was the last name of his trainer.

He fought Kenny Gould in the 1988 olympic trials. Knocked him down 2 times in the 3 rounds and still lost the fight. He turned pro after this due to him getting "robbed" by the amatuer system. Gould went on to win a bronze medal.

This whole thing could be resolved if I can just find out a list of fighters that fought Gould to make the olympics. If anyone can find an amatuer fight listing for Kenny Gould I would really appriciate it.

Kenneth Gould he is sometimes reffered to as.

Please help me solve this mystery :) Thanks a lot.

[email protected] is my email address if you'd like to send me an email. I'll be checking this post too

Well it helped rule him out :) hehe thanks for the pictures but I see a couple of similarities but I'm pretty sure its not him.

Any other ideas?

DOES any one know where I can find 1988 Olympic TRIAL results. You know the matches that end up qualifying you for the olympic team. He fought Kenneth Gould in one of the trials and I'm sure I could narrow it down if I could find the info.

I found the 2004 info so I know it must exist somewhere. Just probably not on the web due to the oldness of the data!

Try these;
Jerry Ward, Reno, NV 1988-93
Jose Varela, Las Vegas, NV 1988-93
Roy Ritchie, St. Louis, MO 1988-93
Steve Barreras, Albaquerque, NM 1988-94

Meanwhile, I'll check magazines
