FIGHT hero Ryan Rhodes is back in action next month – but not in the boxing ring. His next showdown is against a WRESTLER!

And today it was announced that WWE all time great Bret 'The Hitman' Hart, regarded as Pele of the wrestling world, is coming out of retirement to watch the fight and meet fans at iceSheffield, on Saturday, July 11.

Rhodes, aged 32, who is also expected to fight for a boxing world crown later this year, has agreed to a Rocky-style boxer v wrestler grudge match against Scott Gallagher, following bad blood between the two.

Rhodes, a wrestling fan, was with family at ringside when Gallagher jumped over the ropes and squared up to him at a recent 1PW wrestling show, at Doncaster Dome.

Press the green play button to see our exclusive video coverage of the rumpus when the two came face to face and it all kicked off.

Johnny Nelson, the former WBO Cruiserweright world champ, and Kell Brook, the British welterweight, had to restrain pal Rhodes, who pushed the Scotsman away when banter got out of hand.

Rhodes, ranked eighth light middleweight in the world by the WBC, has been warned he could suffer serious injury in the wrestling ring and end his lifelong dream of a becoming a world champ boxer.

But today he confirmed that he has signed for the main event at Steel City Ice Rage: Total Meltdown. Tickets are now on sale - full details below.

Rhodes said: "I'm hoping they can make this a special world title fight. If it is I might be a wrestling world champ before I get a shot at the boxing title. But even if there's no belt at stake, my reputation is. Gallagher was disrespectful to me in front of my family and friends. He wants a fight – he's got it. I'm not bothered that it's in the wrestling ring. I've not decided whether it will be gloves off, or on for me.

"I can't wrestle but I've been watching Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler. All I need now is my boxing fans and wrestling fans to cheer me on. Gallagher is the bad guy. It will be like the Rocky film when Stallone faced Hulk Hogan. But I'm planning not to be thrown out of the ring. Gallagher is no Hogan."

Rhodes said of Bret Hart's appearance: "I grew up watching him in the ring with Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Bill Goldberg and all the greats. I love wrestling. But I'm a boxer. So it will be the most unusual fight of my career. I don't think I'll be doing it again."

Hart, a WWE seven times world champion, is known as "The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be". He will fly in from Canada to hold the winner's hand aloft. He will also take part in a rare Q&A fan meet and greet, signings and instant photographs, before the show.

1PW, the new established big name in British wrestling, will mark its Sheffield debut in asociation with LGI Enterprises - with a line-up of other WWE, TNA and Ring Of Honour superstar names on the bill, including ROH Champion Jerry Lynn, ex WWE star Colt Cabana and TNA giant, The Masked Monster Abyss. "The Vigilante" Johnny Moss, Kevin Thorne, Doug Williams, Martin Stone, Project Ego, Pac and Rockstar Spud are due to appear. Line up is subject to change.

BUY TICKETS: Tickets are £15, £20 and £40, may be subject to a booking fee. Buy in person from iceSheffield, Coleridge Road , Attercliffe, call 0114 2789 789, 0114 256 5656, buy on line via Sheffield City Hall and Sheffield Arena by clicking the links here www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk or www.sheffieldarena.co.uk .

BRET HART MEET AND GREET Q&A: The Bret Hart Q&A, also at iceSheffield, Saturday, July 11, is 2pm to 4pm and costs £15, entry only. Fans will be able to have professional photos taken with Hart, which will be printed for signing on the day - a rare keepsake, plus other memorabilia. I totally agree and there is a big risk of injury as well. After boxing to keep fit and make a lot of money, why not but now is not the right time.

I like Ryan Rhodes a lot - think he is a fantastic bloke - he has had his career halted here and there time and time again due to legal wrangles etc etc etc - I am not spoiling confidences by stating he is going through one now with a previous "co-manager".

Rhodes is like anyone - he needs to provide money to pay the bills - he is now in a "catch 22" situation where it seems he cannot do right.

Hayemaker Boxing need to get Rhodes busy - but Rhodes I have to concede with the remainder of the forum needs to prove he is ready to do whatever he has to - to succeed in his BOXING career and not p*ss around doing other things - he will of course argue he has to do these "other" things to pay the bills - I suppose the logical question is what would you do in Rhodes case?

Personally I think Rhodes should stick to boxing - try his best to tough things out which are going on in the background!!!

Rhodes only needed a few more wins and he could of been in a wbc box off with Jamie Moore. that would of been one for the ages.

I have to chuckle.
Rhodes is the regions's Sports Personality of the Year.
Part of that involves being involved in PR in the area until the next Personality gets the award.
Locally, he's in the press.
No such thing as bad pubilicity.
It's a bit of fun.
Jesus - Johnny Nelson's his "trainer" for this and Ezekiel's his "manager"
Get over yourselves !

Twenty six,

You know what I think of Ryan - however - with the controversy over Ryan's pull out over the Small fight and then this holiday thing or whatever it was for the reason not fighting in July - now this b*llocks with the wrestling - surely you have to concede Ryan has left himself open to his "critics" for a bit of a bashing?

Ryan wants to be taken seriously - you must know the way boxing works and the stabbing in the backs that goes on - you have to be squeaky clean in the publics view and Ryan I will repeat is leaving himself a tadge open to the critics!!!

Mainly its because Ryan has had 1 mark time fight in the whole of 2009.
Whens he going to fight a meaningful boxing match this year?

In the 1970s they showed a clip on World of Sport of Muhammad Ali stripping to the waist at ringside, taking off his shoes and then getting into the ring with Gorilla Monsoon, who had just won a wrestling bout in typical 'bad guy' fashion. Ali danced around the ring for a short while, flicking out distant jabs, when Monsoon suddenly picked him up, spun him around several times to disorientate him and then body-slammed him to the canvas. Ali staggered out of the ring quicker than his "Anchor punch". He was so embarrassed he walked straight out of the venue still half-dressd. Someone dug out a clip of it on youtube recently and posted it on the BOTP forum, to much hilarity, but youtube have since removed the clip for copyright reasons.

Spud,
If people want to carp - get on with it.
For a boxer written off for years as "shot" etc etc etc there seems to be an obsessive focus on him.

Don't get too downhearted just yet Counter.
We'll know better be the end of the year.
The respective camps get on really well, and can see the mutual advantages of getting this on.
Up to Rhodes to get himself in the right place in the queue and for Jamie to keep doing the business.
Precisely why this EU fight is right for Rhodes if it comes off - and no reason why not, as he's mandatory.
It's not the title Rhodes is after, its the ranking it brings World wise.
Not sure what the plans are for Jamie in the next 6 months.

Ryan Rhodes is a joke!

Him fighting for the world title I dont think so. He seems to face European/African nobodys and fight for paper belts. He really annoys me.
