either wait around to try and get nominated for a eliminator, which could mean sitting around whilst boxing politics are played out, and at their ages its not a good idea to be waiting around.
Or trying to tempt one of the title holders into making a voluntary defense against one of them, this then comes down to how much clout the promoter of the boxer has. by clout i mean money!
As any title holder would see either Rhodes or Moore as a risky defense, and the champion would want paying good money.
The other thing is a fight between the 2 of them, this is the most attrative for us boxing fans, and may get eliminator from a ruling body.
I live in hope this fight happens![]()
Oh and although i've been critical of Rhodes not taking on Small, and the delay in him boxing this year in a meaningful fight, at no point do i think he's a coward!.

Re: Ryan Rhodes latest......
Old Bones,
This is why Rhodes is targeting Konecny.
He's number 2 WBO, number 5 IBF and number 15 WBA.
If he beats him he takes his rankings.
Rhodes is already number 8 WBC, Jamie is number 6.
It just helps to push a possible fight between the two a little closer.
The title he currently holds is just EU which I accept is meaningless, but as Rhodes is the mandatory, then its a logical fight - for the rankings.
Don't know what Jamie's plans are but expect defence of the European next.
Maybe someone from VIP can update us ? Stegsie ?

In answer to your very direct question concerning Ryan Rhodes and whether he has been badly advised.
First of all as "Twenty Six" and others on here will tell you - I thought it was unwise to leave "The Ingles" - however what some people on here do not realise is that "Boxing Politics" meant that I soon learnt that as long as Ryan Rhodes had a hole in his ars* he would not have stayed. With that said for me Brendan Ingle is the top trainer this country has produced and as such it was one of them situations of "being stuck between a rock and a hard place".
With regards to Ryan Rhodes and his subsequent career - I do not believe things have gone as well as expected. Somewhere along the line yep I think the wrong advice has been given - whilst it has been clearly explained to me why Konecy is going to be his next opponent - I disagree - however offers were made for other fighters and unrealistic purse demands have come back. Sometimes its not just about the money - if its the world title trail you really want and not the money - sometimes you have to take the risk - and I do not think Konecy is either a risk and despite his rankings I do not think beating him will carry any weight whatsoever - I hope I am proved wrong.
Do I think Hayemaker was the right move to Rhodes - absolutely - however with hindsight and the rumours concerning Setanta you could possibly argue - WRONG move!!! but from a promotional aspect - Absolutely!!! - what did Hennessy do for Rhodes? - what did SN do for Rhodes in the later part of his contract with them?
And whilst I am here - I am delighted to tell you I still do the odd few bits here and there for Dennis Hobson and only him - the Haye/Barrett fight was purely a one off and I thoroughly enjoyed working on that show - Haye/Booth and especially Dave C are good people and if people stopped and made their own minds up about them instead of listening to b*llocks - they would clearly see Hayemaker are a bloody good outfit - but quite simply Dennis Hobson has been far too good to me for me to upsticks and go elsewhere!!!
Anyhow you have failed to answer one of my questions - have you lost that weight yet?

I admit, my comments towards Rhodes were harsh, to say the least. I let my dislike for him cloud my judgment. Rhodes is not a coward, but this wrestling business is a joke. Surely he should be concentrating on his boxing, especially after beating Vuma.
Apologies if I caused offence, which I am pretty sure I did.

Re: Ryan Rhodes latest......
Since signing with Hayemaker, Rhodes has had 4 fights.
3 were title fights, and he won them all.
I think that stumps up nicely in comparison to the now defunct SN period.
Also the Henessey period but to be fair Rhodes never had a contract then.
What would have happened to Rhodes had he waited for the defunct organisation to come up with something ?
The Lockett fight was in July 2006.
Work it out for yourself, what was done for him between July 2006 and April 2008 by said organisation.
Oh and please dont raise the boring issue of being offered the Pryce fight.
It was offered to take place exactly 4 weeks after the Woolcombe fight, and quite fankly financially it was an insult.
I've never mentioned it before but there was another offer - Matty Hall.
That was accepted, but turned down by Hall.
Throughout a fighter's career, decisions have to be made.
Some are a doddle.
Others really tear the individual apart.
One person forced Rhodes to leave the Ingles or stagnate.
Sometimes the playground is more rewarding than boxing politics.

Dioufy,
Fair dos, you didn't have to respond.
As I've found after 30 years following boxing, its best to organise the following words into a sentence before posting.
Brain , before, best , engage, to, first, commenting.
I hope Jamie Moore isn't taking his kids to the playground during the close season, and risking injury with those nasty slides, and swings.
Blown totally out of proportion this thread.

Fair point, but it would be really really depressing for everyone if Rhodes picked up an injury in this wrestling/boxing match.twenty six wrote:Dioufy,

Wrestling might not be "real" but the risks are real enough!
Re: Ryan Rhodes latest......
I believe Rhodes is quality and I would love to see him do well, even though I don't really like him, and I have my reasons. The point I was trying to make is that I believe Rhodes should be building on his recent, good wins. I'm not certain, but isn't he ranked within the top ten of the WBC? If so, then perhaps his whole concentration should be on that, not on wrestling, where people have already stated, it's very easy to get hurt. For me, his job is boxing - that should be number priority at all times, excluding family matters.twenty six wrote:Dioufy,

One other point I was trying to make is that if Rhodes pulled out of the Small match because he did have flu and give up the belt because he wanted to move on to better things then that's fine - I would prefer Rhodes to fight Small, but not instead of a big fight. And if Rhodes goes on to face some African or past-it international in stead of this "better thing" then I believe that would be wrong, to both his fans and to Anthony Small, even though Small is the biggest prat ever. Him versus Hall should be a belter.
I will wait till his next opponent is named before I comment any further. I don't know the light middleweight WBC ratings but Moore is definitely there - perhaps that's an option. Bunema could be considered, or even Karmazin, if he still fights at 154lbs.

Sorry, guilty as charged, not a smart move with my history of injuries but hey, what can I say, I love my kids.twenty six wrote:Dioufy,

Konecny is a decent test for Rhodes - far better than Woolcombe or Jamie Coyle.

If you believe that allegedly should have handed him his contract back, do you believe that twentysix, who is either Rhodes or connected to him, was wise to openly slag off FW on this Board ?
Sadly , no. The scales keep tipping the wrong way.

Beagleboy,
Can you please explain to me how Wazza gifted Rhodes the Woolcombe fight ?
A fight promoted by FRANK MALONEY.
You really need to get off the biscuits mate, you're getting sugar rush.
I recommend Slimmers World.

Call me picky, but are you confident this Konecny will come over to fight Rhodes? What's in it for him (what TV is going stump up enough cash to make it worth his while) ?
Re: Ryan Rhodes latest......
No offence, pal, I have nothing against you, but I do try to not read your posts about Ryan Rhodes. It's obvious you're his mate, or his stalker, or both. You do talk about him with a lot of bias - something of which I understand as you're his mate, but don't agree.

Re: Ryan Rhodes latest......
Oh yes for the record:
I do believe the Jamie Moore v Ryan Rhodes is the only decent money fight for Rhodes - you could have said the same about Jamie Moore a little while back - but winning his recent fights has put him, his manager and promoter in a prime position to bargain for decent money on the world stage - hopefully one of the world champions will see Moore as an easy touch - they will then be in for a mighty shock!!! - although I have to say I would like to see Jamie in one more fight at European level just to confirm the recent form.
I will repeat - yes yes and yes - I see and acknowledge what anyone is saying about Konecy or whatever his name is regarding his high ranking with a couple of the governing bodies - but beating Konechy is not going to set the world alight - and you only have to look at Howard Eastman to see how long he had to wait for his world title shot - again beating Konechy will prove f*ck all - what you need is your boxing manager and promoter to have the savy to get the world governing bodies to allow their fighter to have a shot at the champion - or - you get the champion to accept the challenge with a big money offer!!! - alas for Rhodes with Setanta being in the very least in the sh*t - I doubt Hayemaker will have the financial backing to do it that way and thus - the only route is the governing body route - I am sorry but do Dave Coldwell and Adam Booth have the contacts to be able to do that ?? - they will argue lets go the ranking route - that way will see Rhodes in a world title shot either at the end of 2010 or early 2011.

Re: Ryan Rhodes latest......
I think beating Konecny isn't a forgone conclusion. I don't think Rhodes will get the fights to get him a "star" billing. I cannot imagine the likes of Sergio Mora, Cory Spinks or Vernon Forrest calling him out to Larry Merchant. Konecny will move him up the rankings and will provide a good test.
Rhodes really hasn't beaten much to get his ranking, he needs a good "bridge" fight.... this could be it.
