Best punch Tyson landed/had landed on him in his prime?
There was a comment here about evolution in sports, very true. Most people praise Ali, Frazier, etc. The fact is that everything has changed, it go harder, faster, stronger. Pele is considered to be on of the all times greatest footballers. But if you put his best play against a nowadays best team (consider Brazil), he would pale in comparisson. We have good memories, but things change a lot. Tyson really deserves more respect as a boxer than he has nowadays. I have also noticed that he is quite clean in his fights, can't remember of any real dirt from him (except for the bite).
I praise that comment. Tyson, before Cus past away and while still being trained by Rooney, was a sound technical fighter with all the skills, and he did fight clean. That is the major reason he knocked so many fighters out so easily. It was only after the chaotic lifestlye and the loss of the title that he started doing stuff in the ring that was dirty, and to this day it has only been a few times.AINTD wrote:There was a comment here about evolution in sports, very true. It's just like baseball and a homerun hitter. If you start hitting homeruns all the time you forget how to hit singles. In boxing if you knock everyone out, you start looking for the knock out and when you look for knockout it doesn't come as easily as if you set it up. Tyson used to set them, and he also used to never get hit clean because of the awesome head movement.

I got 3 blows that Tyson delivered that comes to my mind:
1. The final blow vs the great Larry Holmes
2.The uppercut vs Buster Douglas was a perfect uppercut if you ask me. Right on the button!!! It was probably the best uppercut that I have ever seen in my life due to the circustances surrounding the fight. Tyson was getting a "Shellacking Beating" from Buster and in the eight round he was against the ropes with an eye completely shut. Douglas went for the kill but got careless, and then BOOM!!! what an uppercut!!!. Like HBO commentator Jim Lampley said: "He got a little goossy goossy or loosy loosy", something like that.
If Tyson would have won the fight right there, then I would have rate him much higher in the ranks of boxing. It was a fight that he was losing and needed something big to win the fight. That uppercut was perfectly timed. But Douglas eventually KO'd him in the 10th round.
3. There was a punch early in his career that Tyson landed a punch and the guy just when flying across the ring. I've never seen nothing like it. I do not know Tyson's victim in that fight, but it was something like Foreman-Frazier I when Frazier went flying from one spot of the ring to the other. Do you guys know what Tyson's victim I am talking about???
3 blows that Tyson received that comes to my mind:
1. The final KO blow from Douglas in round 10th. It started with an uppercut and ended with a 3-punch combo. Tyson was looking for the mouthpiece which made me laugh. I could not believe that he got KO'd.
2. The combinations that the great Evander Holyfield gave him for the KO in round 11th were awesome.
3. A shot from Razor Ruddock in fight #1 . Tyson took it well to the chin. (I have not seen the Lewis-Tyson fight yet).

Tyson ability
I woulden't be sure about Tyson necessarily beating Liston or Foreman but he certainly was a worthy successor to these guys because he was so devastating in his prime.
Re: Tyson ability
I agree,I think Tyson would be intimidated by Ali and Foreman and maybe a few others like he was against Holyfield in their second fight but against plenty of other guys he would beat them on pure ability,Tyson was faster than hell and had big power in both hands plus he could take a real good punch in his prime,he'd beat a lot of good fighters, just not the elite(Ali,Foreman,Holmes)in my opinion,no shame in that.Cojimar 1945 wrote:I woulden't be sure about Tyson necessarily beating Liston or Foreman but he certainly was a worthy successor to these guys because he was so devastating in his prime.
