Freak nights...

It's strange how some fighters suffer freak defeats in their careers. One that comes to mind is Rocky Lockridge's second-round knockout at the hands of Juan Laporte in 1981.
I don't think Lockridge ever got kayoed again - and he met the likes of Chavez, Pedroza, Boza, Wilfredo Gomez, Roger Mayweather, Sharmba Mitchell and Tony Lopez.

Tony Sibson getting sparked in one by Lotte Mwale was a freak result.

Yes, Trevor Berbick got iced in one round by Bernardo Mercardo in 1979 and, Tyson fight apart, showed he had a solid chin throughout his career.

That was one hell of a right hand bomb Laporte landed - would've knocked out anyone.

The great Pedroza was iced in two rounds by bantam champ Zamora early on, then moved up to feather, won a world title, made 19 or so defences and was never stopped again.

I remember Jimmy Cable getting done with body shots by Horace McKenzie in an early career fight - and later moaning that every time he read a preview of an upcoming fight in BN, he was supposedly susceptible to body shots.
He became British and European champion.

Mwale was a big Light Heavy, a huge puncher and terrific fighter. I reckon he would have murdered the likes of Clinton Woods and would have beaten Calzaghe at 175.

I dont think Sibbo, as much as I love him, would ever have beaten Mwale.

True. George Francis talks about it as the only time he ever put one over on Mickey Duff. George told him Lotte was a light puncher.
Strange to see that result on Sibbo's record though - until you realise it was at light heavy.

One of the best punches I've ever seen was Matt Saad Muhammad taking out Mwale with a massive right uppercut.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who remembers it. Used to be a good trivia question. Most people believed the first man to beat Mo was Bunny Sterling.

Ruiz seems like a nice enough bloke but I agree he is dreadful to watch. Can't believe I've seem him fight twice (Although the second time for the Rahman fight, it was so bad we had to go to the bar instead)

Roger Mayweather going the distance with Tszyu at the end of his career was a freak. The guy had been stopped several times at his best, but Tszyu couldn't manage it.

Barrera. Knocked senseless by Junior Jones, but Morales and Hamed (among others) couldn't put a dent in him.

In actual fact, i seem to recall the Mwale - Sibbo fight being at 168.

BTW, that was a great punch by Saad, who also ko'd Pete McIntyre with a huge shot as well.
