Thats pretty lame. If i was lenroy thompson i wouldnt let my people protest that. He lost fair and square. so he had a little extra gauze on. I know its against the rules but if i was in his shoes my competitiveness wouldnt let me continue in that tourny. I know its against the rules but its not like he had rocks in his gloves.

Yes, someone does sign off, but the referee has the authority to DQ a boxer. It is hard to tell how much gauze is used. My understanding from the chief of officials is that they had used 2 10 yard rolls of gauze per hand on Mike Hunter. Enrique Orci then checked the HW and SHW in the evening session before they got gloved to ensure there weren't any additional problems.

He might be Ricky Edwards, not sure. But I think the winner of Garza and Rivers will win the whole thing. You never know though - that's why they show up, right? Garza and Rivers is going to be a good fight.

Yes, someone does sign off, but the referee has the authority to DQ a boxer.
I heard that John Brown (Thompson's coach) filed a protest about Hunter's handwraps AFTER Thompson lost (just happened to have a check on him for the fee). There was also some question about Thompson's handwraps, so both sets were taken as evidence and, it seems, have disappeared. Grievance committee included Ringside employees and a unilateral decision was made by the chair to DQ Hunter.

Kinda fun, sitting here in So. Cal, watching the organization fall apart. Unfortunately, it's the athletes who bear the brunt of the dysfunctional bunch who are currently running USAB into the ground. I still wonder why the USOC hasn't moved to take over........

Hunter used 19 yards of gauze instead of the allowed 15 yards of gauze. Its really a bullshit move by Thompsons people. They were looking for anything they could to win the fight. Now instead of sending Michael Hunter to represent the USA in the World Championships, we will be sending a fighter in Lenroy Thompson who has zero chance of accomplishing anything.

Michael Hunter must have done something to rub the officials the wrong way, because they did everything they could to try and steal that fight from him on the score cards, and when that failed, they disqualified him. The referee broke them and gave Thompson time every time he got buzzed by Hunter, the judges weren't pushing the button for Hunter, and in general nothing smelled right in that bout.

People standing by ringside were commenting on how they tried to steal that fight from Hunter before he even came out of the ring, so its not really that surprising that they found a way to take the fight from him.

I talked with Joe Zanders about it, and initially Thompsons wrapped were measured at 15 yards 6 inches, which is just as illegal as 19 yards, and after he pointed that out, new measurement came back that indicated his wraps were less than 15 yards in length.

Zanders was the only member of the grievance committee to take a stand against the bullshit.

And yes, the grievance was filed after the Thompson lost.

this the way I see it the judges already have their favorite boxers on who is going to win and practically the only way to beat that you have to knock the kid out!!! all fights are almost like this its not nothing new to everyone so yeah!!

In order to make the above true:

1. The judges would have to know all the boxers. For many, this is their first time and they would have no clue on who was "favored," or not. Also, judges don't work their own region.

2. There would have to be a conspiracy between all judges to limit the number of buttons pushed for the opponent, and up the buttons pushed for the "favorite." This is almost, if not, impossible. There are bout print outs showing how many times each judge pushed the button for each boxer. It is pretty obvious to see if anyone is favoring one boxer over another.

3. It is entirely possible there are new judges who are not used to the computer, who are not well-trained on what constitutes a legal punch and there might even be a few with biases. But to pull a total conspiracy of making sure the "favorites" win is impossible.

Just my opinions, of course. :box:
