Harold Johnson versus...

Post by Ezzard »

Johnson was a great fighter in a great era.

How we he have fared in 15 round fights with the best from the eras that followed...

Johnson v Bob Foster

Johnson v Matt Saad

Johnson v Mike Spinks

Johnson v Eddie Mutapha

Johnson v Dwight Qawi

Johnson v Roy Jones

Johnson v James Toney

Johnson v Bernard Hopkins

He'd beat them all other than Spinks and Foster imo

In my opinion...

Johnson v Bob Foster - Foster by Late Stoppage

Johnson v Matt Saad - Johnson UD. But i reckon Saad may win 1 in a trilogy

Johnson v Mike Spinks - Spinks by UD imo

Johnson v Eddie Mutapha -Either way

Johnson v Dwight Qawi - Either way

Johnson v Roy Jones - Prime v Prime, Roy Jones may outpoint him, but may go down

Johnson v James Toney - Johnson

Johnson v Bernard Hopkins - Hopkins by UD. Johnson relied on points, something Hopkins does better, alot better imo

He beats them all except Spinks.

Some good matches. I would like to check out some
guys on this list to figure how they would fare.

I am a fan of Johnson. He has a good style and was
a very real talent.

I would like to add another match up..a Grantastic one..

Jimmy Young vs Harold Johnson peak for peak....

I'll second that, with the only exception I'd make being I'd set him as a slim underdog against Foster. That, however, is the type of match-up so narrow, I wouldn't argue tooth & nail with anyone in your position.

Johnson & Jones would make for interesting viewing.

Exactly what I thought.

And even then, I wouldn't totally rule him out against either of them.

That's pretty much how I see it as well. Foster and Spinks would be the only ones that he would have less than a 50% chance against. Mustapha Muhammad and Muhammad Qawi would give him a lot of trouble, but he would probably win.
