Amir Khan needs to win today...

If he loses today, it won't be enough that he's already scored two fine wins over solid opposition. No-one remembers a quarter-finalist. Khan needs to win a medal - any medal, and his future is assured.

These Koreans are not easy to beat and though this guy seems to have slow foot and handspeed and his style doesn't seem to suit the amatuers he's almost at the bronze medal stage in the Olympics, he'd have faced fast fighters before and probably has a way to deal with them. C'mon Khan.

It could be seen as a blessing in desguise. If he wins a medal, he may not be able to resist turning pro...and maybe too soon? If he loses tommorow (i dont believe he will) then he'll definately aim for Athens.

But as they keep saying, just getting there was a huge achievement. You maybe right, he wont be remembered much as a quater finalist, but i'm pretty sure if he stays on for 4 more years he will do better and gain more attention.

He should win tommorow though. The Korean looks slow...good on the inside but Khan wont allow the fight to take place there. I got a feeling Khan may win on the outclassed rule.

the only reservation i have about kham is that he always seems to need a round or two to find his stride. i might be wrong here but hasnt he lost both of the first rounds so far? i didnt see his 2nd fight so im not 100% sure. i do think he needs to find his stride quicker at this level.

secondly i dont think he'll turn pro whatever happens after the games. hes only 17, can you even get a license at that age? he has already stated that whatever happens his original goal was the games in china in 2008. these ones are soemthing of a bonus.

without trying to get carried away imagine the incentive if he wins the gold to defend it at the next games before turning pro at around 22!! he could name his price.

i agree. As the fight goes on Khan gets into a rhythm, and it takes 2 rounds to do that. I dont think this is a problem until the Kindelan fight, where he has to b at his very best for the full 8 minutes if he is to have a chance, Kindelan gets into his groove straight away.

I think he won every round against the Bulgarian if I remember correctly.

He does get better as he gets into is stride but keep it in perspective, he was only trailing in the first round of the second bout by 1 point, hardly a catastrophe. However, he cannot beat Super Mario I'm afraid. Silver will do nicely thank u. No shame in losing to such a champ.

As for sticking with the amateurs and defending a title...... u must be joking, national pride and prestige is one thing but money in ya back pocket is something else. Wake up!

I think we have to be careful not to push too much or expect too much from such a young and physically unexperienced fighter. To have achieved what he has is already remarkable.

I wish him all luck tonight, but wont be heartbroken for him if he loses but performs to his best

He has a lot of time on his hands and his dad is speaking more of Beijing than Athens which is very sensible.

In many ways, winning a medal could be the worst thing that could happen to him. The pressure and undue expectation could have him turning pro well before he is ready.

Me? I just hope he puts up a good fight, is happy he gave as much as he could and comes out of it with some good experience

It states on radio times internet tv guide that it will be shown if amir khan gets to this round (which of course he now has) Not sure how accurate this is though but if they've shown rounds one and two, surely they can show the quarter final!

shall i gloat that i thought Khan was going to win by stoppage....like his club coach did immediately after the fight. No, cos like him (probably) i thought a stoppage would come as a result of being 20 points in front before half way. I was shocked at how quickly Amir won it...a truly amazing performance.
