James Hare and David Barnes could happen...

Post by bennie »

It was a fight I thought would never happen, but Secondsout.com were stating yesterday that David Barnes defends his British welterweight title against James Hare on the Hatton-Stewart bill in Manchester on October 1. This is a better pairing than the main event in my opinion.
Looks like the Carl Thompson-David Haye Wembley showdown staged by promoters Fight Academy on September 10 is rubbing off on Sports Network. They countered by staging Alexander-Takaloo on the same night, and now this.
Promotional rivalry is good for us fight fans.

It is a fascinating match up. I can see this going right down to the wire with both landing their fair share of clean, eye-catching punches.

Hare should beat Barnes handily.

This is a tough one to call for me, my first impression was that Hare would totally dominate Barnes (being just to experienced for the young lad), but on second thoughts Barnes may have more to offer, a real 50-50 fight IMO - would be a cracker if it did happen

Yes, the BBBC in a recent circular said parties had agreed to stage Barnes-Hare on October 1st. BBN carried this on August 12th.

I agree that promotional rivalries are good for the fans but date clashes are a bit unfortunate.

I favour Hare, but it remains to be seen whether he will be the same fighter again since that defeat.

Whilst it's a great match on paper between two excellent "movers" I do wonder if the styles will gel. Both like countering off of the back foot, but out of the two Hare has shown he can box quite effectively going forwards to.

I go for Hare (if it does happen!)

I agree, there is the potential for a bit of a clash in styles. The good thing is it looks like we're going to find out how the styles gel. I'm well prepared to put up with the odd stinker as long as the matches that we all want are made.

I'm going to go for Barnes though. No particular reason, i've just got a feeling he'll get the verdict if it goes the distance.

Despite his defeat Hare has fought a class above Barnes so has to be favourite. Barnes has not impressed me that much at all, I think Hare by late stoppage. I agree the styles may not gel.

I think Hare will win, although an early (first 3 rounds) Barnes victory wouldn't surprise me. Hope the fight gets made, Barnes needs to defend his title against at least one worthy challenger before getting the belt outright.

IF it happens and that is a big IF, i cannot see either getting stopped early, i just have a niggling feeling Hare will not be the same again after the Rivera loss. So i tip Barnes to come of age.

Occasionally Hare can start slowly (Julien Holland sticks out for me) and perhaps Barnes can utlise it. Barnes is quite quick and hits hard (although unproven), Hare's punch resistance is a question and I think early is Barnes' best chance.

I have little doubt that Hare is the better boxer of the two and I think once he is warmed up to taking Barnes' shots, he'll win confortably.

What fu<kin planet are you living on! Hares punch resistance, he's only been down twice amatuer or pro teh amtuer fight he was up at 2 and the pro was against Rivera in the 10th when he was just tired! So how the fu<k do you make an argument for Barnes who hasn't really stopped anybody in three rounds doing an early job? He never made a dent on decent not good fighters Vincent, McClarnon besides them who has he even boxed?

I wouldn't say it's good on this occasion, as both shows are on the same night. If SN were to put theirs on the Saturday, then we'd have a rip-roaring weekend of action with both shows being full. As it is, I have to make a decision of which one to go to. As Wayne Alexander is a pal of mine, then I'm obliged to go to his dust-up with Takaloo. However, I'm missing out on the cracker at Wembley. Typical Warren tactic. He is deliberately trying to annoy everyone. Not a good idea. His shows are getting worse all the time.

.

I'm sure Hare has been put down in another pro fight also, in fact I know he did. I'm sure the other guys will mention the name - I remember Sky didn't have the time to show case the fight but showed Hare getting floored.

Also, please read my post again - I said its the ONLY way I can see Barnes winning, because Hare can start slowly.

Whats this then...Barnes in 3!!!!!The other guy to have him down was Matolcsi, but only with a shot to the shoulder when Hare was moving in to finish after dumping him heavy.....on replay Darksey

and the crew discounted it as a knockdown cos it wasn`t one.So only one brief amateur and one 10th rounder from tiredness and Hare after 21 yrs of being too elusive and solid for everyone ever and Barnes in 3 wouldn`t surprise u....u know at the bookies u will get probably 500/1 on it,treat yourself have £50 on it then take a holiday with the winnings!!!!!

I wouldn't expect you to be totally impartial, Tea. But surely even you'll admit that Hare is sometimes a slow starter. And, even the best can be hurt and stopped, regardless of what they've done in the past. I don't think it's outrageous to say that Barnes may be able to win early, especially bearing in mind that Hare has appeared a little easier to hit in his most recent fights.

I believe that if there is a KO in this fight (i've gone for Barnes on points) it's more likely to come from Hare, but i wouldn't exactly die of shock if Barnes managed it either.

IMO if anyone is getting KO'd in this fight its Barnes. I really dont think it will be close at all.
