Okay, this is probably going to be a toughie - but hopefully someone out there will be able to help me...
I am trying to find out the name of the Scottish naval diver who fought Bandsman (Jack) Blake for the British Heavyweight title in 1910. All I know is that it went to 14 rounds and that each fighter got in a couple of knockdowns but that Blake won on points.
Can anyone out there help? I'd be very grateful!
British Heavyweight 1910 Opponent of Bandsman (Jack) Blake?
Have had a look on all the sites i can think of but can't find anything nowhere seems to have a listing for this title fight on Jack Blakes record, your best hope may be to try to find out if this guy fought anyone more famous than blake, for example if he was around at that time there's a strong chance he fought Bombadier Billy Wells who's complete record is available. However if his fight with Blake is the only one you know of I'm afraid I'm stumped
Just out of interest why are you looking for this info.

re
The 1915 T.S. Andrews Record Book has a record for Blake, but it only lists two bouts for 1910:
1910
Private Rowe W 6
Bandsman Woodworth W 6
Old record book have records that are far from complete, so your best bet would be to search through old newspaper microfilm for the time, which you should be able to obtain through your local library.

try contacting the Royal Navy. they may well have a list of divers for 1910 who represented them . at that time the term was the Grand Fleet.Denise F wrote:Okay, this is probably going to be a toughie - but hopefully someone out there will be able to help me...
